And after these things Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, Thus says the Lord the God of Israel: Send out my people, that they may keep a feast to me in the wilderness.

And Pharaoh said, Who is he, whose voice I shall hear so as to send away the sons of Israel? I do not know the Lord, and Israel I will not send away.

And they say to him, The God of the Hebrews has called us; we will go therefore a journey of three days into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to our God, lest perhaps death or slaughter meet us.

And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do you, Moses and Aaron, turn away my people from their works? Go away, each of you, to his works.

And Pharaoh said, Behold, now the people is many; therefore let us not cause them to cease from the works.

And Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and the scribes, saying,

You shall no longer continue to give straw to the people for brick-making, as yesterday and the day before; let them themselves go and gather straw for themselves.

And the quota of the brickwork which they themselves make day by day you shall lay upon them; you shall not take away anything, for they are idle; therefore they have cried out, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

Let the works of these men be made heavy, and let them be anxious about these, and let them not be anxious about empty words.

And the taskmasters and the scribes were pressing them and saying to the people, saying, Thus says Pharaoh: I am no longer giving you straw.

You yourselves go and gather straw for yourselves from wherever you may find it, for nothing will be taken away from your quota

And the people were scattered throughout all Egypt to gather straw for stubble.

And the taskmasters were pressing them, saying, Finish the works, the duties for each day, just as also when the straw was being given to you.

And the scribes of the tribe of the sons of Israel, who were appointed over them by the taskmasters of Pharaoh, were beaten, saying, Why have you not completed your set amounts of brickmaking as yesterday and the third day and today?

Then the scribes of the sons of Israel came in and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, Why are you doing thus to your servants?

Straw is not given to your servants, and they say to us, Make the brick; and behold, your servants are beaten, and you will wrong your people then.

And he said to them, You are idle, you are idle; therefore you say, Let us go, let us sacrifice to our God.

Now therefore go and work, for the straw will not be given to you, and you shall deliver the quota of bricks.

Then the scribes of the sons of Israel saw themselves in evils, saying, You shall not fail from the brickwork the daily quota for the day

And they met Moses and Aaron as they were coming out to meet them, when they were going out from Pharaoh.

And they said to them, May God see you and judge, because you have made our smell abhorrent before Pharaoh and before his servants, to give a sword into his hands to kill us.

And Moses turned to the Lord and said, Lord, why have you afflicted this people, and for what reason have you sent me?

And from the time I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has harmed this people, and you did not rescue your people.
