Exodus 14 — Rahlfs Septuagint

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying

Speak to the sons of Israel, and turning back let them encamp opposite the village, between Migdol and between the sea, opposite Beelsephon; before them you shall encamp by the sea.

ἐρεῖ Φαραω τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πλανῶνται οὗτοι ἐν τῇ γῇ συγκέκλεικεν γὰρ αὐτοὺς ἡ ἔρημος

And Pharaoh will say to his people, The sons of Israel are wandering; these are shut in in the land, for the wilderness has enclosed them.

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue after them, and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his army, and all the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord; and they did so.

And it was reported to the king of the Egyptians that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, What is this that we have done, to send away the sons of Israel so that they should not serve us?

οὖν Φαραω τὰ ἅρματα αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ συναπήγαγεν μεθ᾿ ἑαυτοῦ

So Pharaoh yoked his chariots and took all his people with him

λαβὼν ἑξακόσια ἅρματα ἐκλεκτὰ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἵππον τῶν Αἰγυπτίων καὶ τριστάτας ἐπὶ πάντων

And taking six hundred chosen chariots and all the horsemen of the Egyptians and third men over all of them

And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt and of his servants, and he pursued after the sons of Israel; and the sons of Israel were going out with a high hand.

9

And the Egyptians pursued after them, and found them encamped beside the sea; and all the horses and the chariots of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his army were opposite the camp, in front of Beelsephon.

And Pharaoh was drawing near, and the sons of Israel, having lifted up their eyes, saw, and the Egyptians had encamped behind them, and they feared greatly, and the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord

And he said to Moses, Because there were no tombs in the land of Egypt, you brought us out to put us to death in the wilderness? Why have you done this to us, bringing us out from Egypt?

12

Was not this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Leave us, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in this wilderness.

13

And Moses said to the people, Take courage, stand still, and see the salvation from God, which he will do for us today; for as you have seen the Egyptians today, you shall no longer continue to see them forever again.

14

πολεμήσει περὶ ὑμῶν καὶ ὑμεῖς σιγήσετε

The Lord will fight for you, and you will be silent.

15

δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν τί βοᾷς πρός με λάλησον τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ καὶ ἀναζευξάτωσαν

And the Lord said to Moses, Why do you cry out to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, and let them break camp.

16

And you, lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it, and let the sons of Israel enter into the midst of the sea on dry ground.

17

And behold, I will harden the heart of Pharaoh and of all the Egyptians, and they will enter after them, and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his army and in his chariots and in his horses.

18

γνώσονται πάντες οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι κύριος ἐνδοξαζομένου μου ἐν Φαραω καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἅρμασιν καὶ ἵπποις αὐτοῦ

And all the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I am glorified in Pharaoh and in his chariots and horses.

And the angel of God, who was going before the camp of the sons of Israel, departed and went from behind; and the pillar of the cloud also departed from before their face and stood behind them.

20

And it entered between the camp of the Egyptians and between the camp of Israel, and it stood, and there was darkness and gloom, and the night passed, and they did not mix with one another all the night.

21

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back with a strong south wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the water was divided

22

And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the water was to them a wall on the right and a wall on the left

23

And the Egyptians pursued and went in after them, all Pharaoh’s horse and the chariots and the riders, into the midst of the sea

24

And it happened in the morning watch that the Lord looked upon the camp of the Egyptians in a pillar of fire and cloud, and he confused the camp of the Egyptians

25

And he bound the axles of their chariots and led them with violence, and the Egyptians said, Let us flee from before Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians.

26

And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, and let the water return and cover the Egyptians, both the chariots and the riders.

27

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the water returned toward day on the land; but the Egyptians fled under the water, and the Lord shook off the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

28

And the water, turning back, covered the chariots and the riders and all the force of Pharaoh, those who had gone in after them into the sea, and not one of them was left behind.

29

But the sons of Israel went through on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the water was a wall to them on the right and a wall on the left.

30

And the Lord delivered Israel in that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore of the sea.

31

And Israel saw the great hand which the Lord did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared the Lord, and they believed God and Moses his servant
