And Jothor the priest of Midian, the father-in-law of Moses, heard all that the Lord did for Israel his own people, for the Lord had brought Israel out from Egypt.

And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took Zipporah, the wife of Moses, after her dismissal

and the two sons of him, the name of the one of them Gersam, saying, I was a sojourner in a foreign land

and the name of the second was Eliezer, saying, for the God of my father was my helper and delivered me from the hand of Pharaoh

And Iothor, the father-in-law of Moses, and the sons and the wife came out to Moses into the wilderness where he had encamped at the mountain of God

And it was reported to Moses, saying, Behold, your father-in-law Jothor is coming to you, and your wife and your two sons with him.

And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed to him and kissed him, and they greeted one another, and he brought him into the tent

And Moses related to his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for the sake of Israel, and all the trouble that had come upon them on the way, and that the Lord had delivered them out of the hand of Pharaoh and out of the hand of the Egyptians.

And Jethro was amazed at all the good things that the Lord had done for them, because he had rescued them from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of Pharaoh.

And Jothor said, Blessed is the Lord, because he delivered his people from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of Pharaoh.

Now I know that the Lord is great above all the gods, because of this that they dealt proudly against them

And Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses, took burnt offerings and sacrifices to God; and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with the father-in-law of Moses before God.

And it came to pass on the next day that Moses sat to judge the people; and all the people stood by Moses from morning until evening.

And when Jothor saw all that he was doing to the people, he says, What is this that you are doing to the people? Why do you sit alone, while all the people stand before you from morning until evening?

And Moses says to his father-in-law, because the people come to me to seek judgment from God.

For whenever there is a dispute for them and they come to me, I judge each one and make known to them the ordinances of God and his law

And the father-in-law of Moses said to him, You are not doing this thing rightly.

You will surely wear out, both you and all this people who is with you, because this word is too heavy for you; you will not be able to do it alone.

Now then listen to me, and I will counsel you, and God will be with you; be you for the people the things toward God, and you shall bring their words to God

and you shall testify to them the ordinances of God and his law, and you shall make known to them the ways in which they shall walk in them, and the works which they shall do

And you yourself shall look out for yourself from all the people able men, God-fearing men, righteous men, hating arrogance, and you shall appoint them over them as commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and commanders of fifties and commanders of tens

And they shall judge the people at all times; but the difficult matter they shall bring to you, but the smaller matters of the judgments they themselves shall judge, and they shall lighten it from you, and they shall help you together

If you do this thing, God will strengthen you, and you will be able to stand, and all this people will go to his own place in peace.

And Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he said to him.

And Moses selected able men from all Israel and made them over them commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and commanders of fifties and commanders of tens

And they judged the people at every hour, but every weighty matter they brought up to Moses; but every light matter they judged themselves.

And Moses sent away his father-in-law, and he went away into his own land.
