Genesis 15 — Rahlfs Septuagint

1

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not fear, Abram; I am your protector; your reward will be very great.

2

And Abram says, Lord, what will you give me, and I am being sent away childless? And the son of Masek, my houseborn slave, this Damascus Eliezer.

εἶπεν Αβραμ ἐπειδὴ ἐμοὶ οὐκ ἔδωκας σπέρμα ὁ δὲ οἰκογενής μου κληρονομήσει με

And Abram said, Since you have not given me seed, but my household slave shall inherit me.

εὐθὺς φωνὴ κυρίου ἐγένετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων οὐ κληρονομήσει σε οὗτος ἀλλ᾿ ὃς ἐξελεύσεται ἐκ σοῦ οὗτος κληρονομήσει σε

And immediately the voice of the Lord came to him, saying, This one shall not inherit you, but the one who shall come forth from you, this one shall inherit you.

And he led him outside and said to him, Look up now to the heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them. And he said, So shall your seed be.

ἐπίστευσεν Αβραμ τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

And Abram believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.

7

δὲ πρὸς αὐτόν ἐγὼ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐξαγαγών σε ἐκ χώρας Χαλδαίων ὥστε δοῦναί σοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην κληρονομῆσαι

And he said to him, I am God, the one who brought you out from the land of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land to inherit.

δέ δέσποτα κύριε κατὰ τί γνώσομαι ὅτι κληρονομήσω αὐτήν

And he said, Lord GOD, by what shall I know that I shall inherit it?

δὲ αὐτῷ λαβέ μοι δάμαλιν τριετίζουσαν καὶ αἶγα τριετίζουσαν καὶ κριὸν τριετίζοντα καὶ τρυγόνα καὶ περιστεράν

And he said to him, Take for me a heifer three years old, and a she-goat three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtledove, and a pigeon.

δὲ αὐτῷ πάντα ταῦτα καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτὰ μέσα καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰ ἀντιπρόσωπα ἀλλήλοις τὰ δὲ ὄρνεα οὐ διεῖλεν

And he took for him all these things and divided them in the middle and placed them opposite one another, but he did not divide the birds.

δὲ ὄρνεα ἐπὶ τὰ σώματα τὰ διχοτομήματα αὐτῶν καὶ συνεκάθισεν αὐτοῖς Αβραμ

But birds came down upon the bodies, the pieces of them, and Abram sat with them.

δὲ ἡλίου δυσμὰς ἔκστασις ἐπέπεσεν τῷ Αβραμ καὶ ἰδοὺ φόβος σκοτεινὸς μέγας ἐπιπίπτει αὐτῷ

Now when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and behold, a great dark fear falls upon him

And it was said to Abram, knowing you shall know that your seed shall be a sojourner in a land not its own, and they shall enslave them and afflict them and humble them four hundred years

δὲ ἔθνος ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσωσιν κρινῶ ἐγώ μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἐξελεύσονται ὧδε μετὰ ἀποσκευῆς πολλῆς

But the nation to which they shall be in bondage I will judge, and after these things they shall come out here with much property

δὲ ἀπελεύσῃ πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας σου μετ᾿ εἰρήνης ταφεὶς ἐν γήρει καλῷ

But you shall go to your fathers in peace, having been buried in a good old age.

16

δὲ γενεὰ ἀποστραφήσονται ὧδε οὔπω γὰρ ἀναπεπλήρωνται αἱ ἁμαρτίαι τῶν Αμορραίων ἕως τοῦ νῦν

And in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the sins of the Amorrites have not yet been filled up until now.

And when the sun was going down, there came to be a flame; and behold, a smoking furnace and torches of fire which passed between these divided pieces.

18

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I will give this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

19

Καιναίους καὶ τοὺς Κενεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Κεδμωναίους

the Kenites and the Kenizzites and the Kadmonites

20

τοὺς Χετταίους καὶ τοὺς Φερεζαίους καὶ τοὺς Ραφαϊν

and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Rephaim
