And Abraham was older, advanced in days, and the Lord blessed Abraham in all things.

And Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, the ruler of all that was his, Put your hand under my thigh.

and I will adjure you by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you not take a wife for my son Isaac from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell among them

but you shall go to my land, where I was born, and to my tribe, and you shall take a wife for my son Isaak from there

And the servant said to him, Perhaps the woman will not be willing to go with me, after me, into this land; shall I turn your son back to the land from which you came, from there?

And Abraham said to him, Take care for yourself, lest you turn back my son there.

The Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, who took me from my father’s house and from the land in which I was born, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, To you I will give this land and to your seed, he himself will send his angel before you, and you will take a wife for my son Isaac from there.

But if the woman should not be willing to go with you to this land, you shall be clean from this oath of mine; only do not turn my son back there.

And the servant put his hand under Abraham’s thigh, his master’s, and swore to him concerning this matter.

And the servant took ten camels from the camels of his master and from all the goods of his master with him, and having risen, he went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

And he made the camels lie down outside the city by the well of water toward evening, when the women who draw water go out

And he said, Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, prosper before me today, and do mercy with my lord Abraham.

Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the inhabitants of the city are coming out to draw water.

And it shall be that the virgin to whom I shall say, Incline your water jar that I may drink, and she shall say to me, Drink, and I will water your camels, until they have finished drinking, you have prepared this for your servant Isaac, and by this I shall know that you have shown mercy to my lord Abraham.

And it came to pass before he had finished speaking in his mind, behold, Rebekah was coming out, she who had been born to Bethuel, son of Milcah the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, and having the water jar upon her shoulders.

Now the young woman was very beautiful in appearance, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the spring and filled the jar and went up.

And the servant ran to meet her and said, Give me a little water from your jar

And she said, Drink, lord, and she hurried and lowered the jar onto her arm and gave him drink.

Until he finished drinking, and she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until all have drunk.

And she hurried and emptied the jar into the watering trough and ran again to the well to draw water, and she watered all the camels

And the man observed her closely and remained silent, to know whether the Lord had prospered his journey or not.

And it came to pass, when all the camels had finished drinking, the man took gold earrings, a drachma in weight, and two bracelets for her hands, ten golds in their weight.

And he asked her and said, Daughter of whom are you? Tell me, is there at your father’s place room for us to lodge?

And she said to him, I am a daughter of Bethuel, the son of Melcha, whom she bore to Nahor.

And she said to him, both straw and much fodder are with us, and a place to lodge.

And the man, having been pleased, bowed down to the Lord.

And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my lord Abraham, who has not forsaken his righteousness and his truth from my lord; the Lord has prospered me to the house of my lord’s brother.

And the girl ran and reported in her mother’s house according to these words.

Now Rebecca had a brother, whose name was Laban; and Laban ran to the man outside, to the spring.

And it came to pass, when he saw the earrings and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus the man has spoken to me, that he came to the man, and he was standing by the camels at the spring.

And he said to him, Come in, blessed be the Lord; why do you stand outside? But I have prepared the house and a place for the camels.

And the man entered into the house, and he unburdened the camels and gave straw and fodder to the camels and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men with him.

And he set bread before them to eat, and he said, I will certainly not eat until I have spoken my words. And they said, Speak.

And he said, I am Abraham’s servant.

And the Lord greatly blessed my lord, and he was exalted, and he gave him sheep and calves, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, camels and donkeys.

And Sarah, my lord’s wife, bore one son to my lord after he had grown old, and he gave to him all that he had.

And my lord made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I am sojourning in their land.

but rather you shall go to my father’s house and to my tribe, and you shall take a wife for my son from there

And I said to my lord, Perhaps the woman will not go with me.

And the Lord said to me, before whom I was well pleasing, he himself will send his angel with you and will prosper your way, and you shall take a wife for my son from my tribe and from the house of my father

then you shall be innocent from my curse, for whenever you shall come to my tribe and they do not give to you, you shall also be innocent from my oath

And having come today to the spring, I said, Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, if you prosper my way on which now I am going on it,

Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city will go out to draw water; and the virgin to whom I shall say, Give me a little water to drink from your water jar,

and she say to me, You also drink, and I will draw water for your camels, this is the woman whom the Lord has prepared for his own servant Isaac; and by this I shall know that you have done mercy to my lord Abraham

And it happened before I finished speaking in my mind, that immediately Rebekah was coming out, having the water jar on her shoulders; and she went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, Give me a drink.

And she hurried and lowered her jar from off herself, and said, Drink you, and I will give your camels drink; and he drank, and she gave my camels drink.

And I asked her and said, Whose daughter are you? And she said, I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Nachor, whom Melcha bore to him. And I put the earrings on her and the bracelets around her hands.

and having been well pleased, I worshiped the Lord and blessed the Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, who prospered me on the way of truth to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son

Now therefore, if you are doing mercy and righteousness toward my lord, tell me; but if not, tell me, so that I may turn aside to the right or to the left.

And Laban and Bathuel answered and said, This matter has gone forth from the Lord; we shall not be able, therefore, to speak to you evil for good.

Behold, Rebekah is before you; take her and go, and let her be wife to the son of your lord, as the Lord has spoken.

And it happened, when Abraham’s servant heard these words, he bowed to the ground to the Lord.

And the servant brought out silver vessels and gold vessels and clothing and gave them to Rebekah, and he gave gifts to her brother and to her mother

And he ate and they drank, he himself and the men who were with him, and they slept, and rising early in the morning he said, Send me away, that I may go to my lord.

And her brothers and her mother said, Let the maiden remain with us about ten days, and after these things she shall go away.

But he said to them, Do not hold me back, and the Lord has prospered my way; send me away, that I may go to my lord.

And they said, Let us call the girl and ask her mouth.

And they called Rebekah and said to her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go.

And they sent out Rebekah their sister and her possessions and Abraham’s servant and those with him

And they blessed Rebecca their sister and said to her, Our sister, may you become into thousands of myriads, and may your seed inherit the cities of those who are opposed.

And Rebekah arose, and her maids, and they mounted the camels and went with the man; and the servant, taking up Rebekah, went away

Now Isaac was going through the wilderness toward the well of Vision, and he was dwelling in the land toward the south-west.

And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening, and lifting up his eyes he saw camels coming.

And Rebekah, having looked up with her eyes, saw Isaac, and she sprang down from the camel.

And she said to the servant, Who is that man, the one walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, This is my lord. And she, taking the veil, covered herself.

And the servant recounted to Isaac all the things that he had done

And Isaac entered into the house of his mother, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her, and Isaac was comforted concerning Sarah his mother
