And Jacob lifted up his feet and went to the land of the East, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

And he sees, and behold, a well in the field, and there were there three flocks of sheep resting on it; for from that well they watered the flocks, and a large stone was on the mouth of the well.

and all the flocks were gathered there, and they would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep, and they would put back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place

And Jacob said to them, Brothers, where are you from? And they said, We are from Haran.

And he said to them, Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

And he said to them, Is it well? And they said, It is well, and behold, Rachel his daughter was coming with the sheep.

And Jacob said, It is yet much day; it is not yet time for the cattle to be gathered together; after watering the sheep, go and feed them.

But they said, We shall not be able until all the shepherds are gathered together and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well, and then we will water the sheep.

While he was still speaking to them, Rachel the daughter of Laban was coming with the sheep of her father, for she was shepherding the sheep of her father.

And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob drew near and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well, and watered the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother.

And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifting up his voice, he wept.

And he told Rachel that he was her father’s brother and that he was son of Rebekah, and she ran and reported to her father according to these words.

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the name of Jacob, the son of his sister, he ran to meet him and, having embraced him, kissed him and brought him into his house, and he told Laban all these words.

And Laban said to him, You are from my bones and from my flesh, and he was with him a month of days

Then Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother, you shall not serve me for nothing; tell me what your wages are.

Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

And Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and beautiful in appearance.

Now Jacob loved Rachel, and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.

And Laban said to him, It is better for me to give her to you than to give her to another man; dwell with me.

And Jacob served for Rachel seven years, and they were in his sight like a few days because of his loving her.

Then Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.

And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast.

And it came to pass in the evening, and Laban took Leah his daughter and brought her in to Jacob, and Jacob went in to her.

And Laban gave Zilpah his maidservant to Leah his daughter as her maidservant.

And it came to pass in the morning, and behold, it was Leah. And Jacob said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? And why have you deceived me?

And Laban said, It is not so in our place to give the younger before the elder.

Complete then this week of this one, and I will give to you this one also in exchange for the service which you serve with me yet seven other years.

And Jacob did so, and he fulfilled her week, and Laban gave him Rachel his daughter to him as a wife

And Laban gave to his daughter Rachel Balla his maidservant to her as a maidservant

And he went in to Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served for him seven other years.

But the Lord, seeing that Leah was hated, opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

And Leah conceived and bore a son to Jacob, and she called his name Reuben, saying, Because the Lord has seen my humiliation, now my husband will love me.

And Leah conceived again and bore a second son to Jacob, and she said, Because the Lord heard that I am hated, and he gave me also this one; and she called his name Simeon.

And she conceived again and bore a son and said, Now, at this time, my husband will be with me, for I have borne him three sons; because of this she called his name Levi.

And conceiving again, she bore a son and said, Now, yet this, I will give thanks to the Lord; therefore she called his name Judah, and she ceased bearing.
