1
If a man sends away his wife and she departs from him and becomes another man's, not returning at all, will that woman return to him again? Shall she not be thoroughly polluted? Yet you have committed fornication with many shepherds, and you have returned to me, says the Lord.
2
Lift your eyes straight and see where you were not mixed; by the roads you sat for them, like a crow being made desolate, and you defiled the land with your fornications and with your evils
6
And the Lord said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Have you seen what the dwelling of Israel did to me? They went on every high mountain and under every leafy tree, and there they committed fornication.
8
And I saw that because of all, by which she had been taken, in which the dwelling of Israel was committing adultery, I sent her away and gave to her a bill of divorce into her hands; and the faithless Judah did not fear, and she went and played the harlot, also she.
12
Go and read these words toward the north, and you shall say: Return to me, O dwelling of Israel, says the Lord, and I will not set my face against you, because I am merciful, says the Lord, and I will not be angry with you forever.
13
Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have acted impiously against the Lord your God and have scattered your ways to strangers under every leafy tree, and you did not obey my voice, says the Lord
16
And it shall be, if you multiply and increase in the land in those days, says the Lord, they shall no longer say, The ark of the covenant of the Holy One of Israel; it shall not come up upon the heart, it shall not be named, nor shall it be visited, and it shall no longer be made.
17
In those days and at that time they will call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord, and all the nations will be gathered to it, and they will no longer go after the thoughts of their evil heart.
18
In those days the house of Judah shall come together with the house of Israel, and they shall come together from the land of the north and from all the lands to the land which I gave as an inheritance to their fathers
19
And I said, Let it be, O Lord, because I will set you among children and will give you a land, a chosen inheritance of God Almighty of nations. And I said, You shall call me Father, and from me you shall not turn away.
25
We have lain down in our shame, and our disgrace has covered us, because before our God we have sinned, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.
