The Lord showed me two baskets of figs lying before the face of the temple of the Lord, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the rulers and the craftsmen and the prisoners and the wealthy from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
And the Lord said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said, Good figs, very good, and the bad, very bad, which will not be eaten because of their badness.
Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so I will recognize the exiles of Judah, whom I have sent away from this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.
And I will set my eyes upon them for good, and I will restore them to this land for good, and I will build them up and I will certainly not tear down, and I will plant them and I will certainly not uproot them.
And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord, and they shall be to me for a people, and I shall be to them for God, because they shall turn back to me with all their heart.
And as the bad figs, which will not be eaten because of their badness, thus says the Lord, so I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his great men and the remnant of Jerusalem, those who remain in this land and those who dwell in Egypt.
and I will give them for dispersion into all the kingdoms of the earth, and they shall be for reproach and for a proverb and for hate and for a curse in every place where I have driven them there
