1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fifth month, Hananiah son of Azor, the false prophet from Gibeon, said to me in the house of the Lord, in the sight of the priests and of all the people, saying:
2 Thus said the Lord: I broke the yoke of the king of Babylon.
3 In yet two years of days I will bring back to this place the vessels of the house of the Lord
4 and Jeconiah and the exile of Judah, because I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon
5 And Jeremiah said to Hananiah before the eyes of all the people and before the eyes of the priests who were standing in the house of the Lord
6 And Jeremiah said, Truly, so may the Lord do; establish your word which you prophesy, to turn back the vessels of the house of the Lord and all the captivity from Babylon to this place.
7 Only obey the word of the Lord which I am speaking in your ears and in the ears of all the people
8 The prophets who were before me and before you from of old, and they prophesied against many lands and against great kingdoms, for war
9 the prophet who prophesied for peace, when the word has come, they will know the prophet whom the Lord sent to them in faithfulness
10 And Hananiah took the yokes from the neck of Jeremiah in the sight of all the people and broke them.
11 And Hananiah spoke in the sight of all the people, saying, Thus says the Lord: Thus I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon from the necks of all the nations. And Jeremiah went on his way.
12 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after Hananiah had broken the yokes from off his neck, saying:
13 Go and say to Hananiah, saying: Thus says the Lord: You broke wooden yokes, and I will make in place of them iron yokes.
14 For thus said the Lord: I have put an iron yoke upon the neck of all the nations, to serve the king of Babylon.
15 And Jeremiah said to Hananiah, The Lord has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in injustice.
16 Therefore thus said the Lord: Behold, I am sending you away from the face of this land; in this year you shall die.
17 and he died in the seventh month
