The word that came from the Lord to Jeremiah in the tenth year, to King Zedekiah—this year was the eighteenth year to King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon
And the power of the king of Babylon encamped against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah was being kept in the court of the guard, which is in the house of the king.
in which King Zedekiah shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy, saying, Thus says the Lord: behold, I am giving this city into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it
And Zedekiah shall by no means be saved from the hand of the Chaldeans, for by giving over he shall be given over into the hands of the king of Babylon, and his mouth shall speak with his mouth, and his eyes shall see his eyes.
And Zedekiah shall go into Babylon, and there he shall dwell.
And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying
Behold, Anameel son of Salom, your father’s brother, is coming to you, saying, Buy for yourself my field that is in Anathoth, for it is your right to take it as possession.
And Hanameel son of Shallum, my father’s brother, came to me into the court of the guard and said to me, Buy my field that is in the land of Benjamin, the one in Anathoth, for the right of possession belongs to you, and you are senior; and I knew that it was the word of the Lord.
And I acquired the field of Anameel son of my father’s brother, and I set out for him seven shekels and ten of silver
And I wrote in a book and sealed it and witnessed witnesses and weighed out the silver on the scales
And they took the sealed deed of purchase and the open one
And I gave it to Baruch son of Neriah son of Maaseiah in the sight of Hanamel son of the brother of my father, and in the sight of the standing and writing in the book of the purchase, and in the sight of the Judeans who were in the court of the guard.
And I gave charge to Baruch in their sight, saying
Thus says the Lord Almighty: Take this deed book and the read book, and you shall put it into an earthen vessel, so that it may remain for many days.
For thus said the Lord: Yet fields and houses and vineyards shall be acquired in this land.
And I prayed to the Lord after I had given the book of the possession to Baruch son of Neriah, saying:
O Lord, you made the heaven and the earth by your great strength and by your exalted and lofty arm; nothing shall by any means be hidden from you.
showing mercy to thousands and repaying the sins of fathers into the bosoms of their children after them, the great and mighty God
Lord of great counsel and mighty in works, the God, the great, the Almighty, and Lord of great name, your eyes are upon the ways of the sons of men, to give to each according to his way
who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt until this day, and in Israel, and among the inhabitants of the land, and made for yourself a name, as it is this day
And you brought out your people Israel from the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders and with a strong hand and with a high arm and with great visions
And you gave them this land which you swore to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey
And they came in and took it, and they did not listen to your voice, and they did not walk in your commands; all that I commanded them they did not do, and you caused all these evils to happen to them.
Behold, a crowd is coming into this city to capture it, and the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are warring against it, because of the face of the sword and of the famine; as you have spoken, so it has happened.
And you say to me, Buy for yourself a field with silver; and I wrote a document and sealed it and called witnesses, and the city was given into the hands of the Chaldeans.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying
I am the Lord God of all flesh; shall anything be hidden from me?
Therefore thus said the Lord God of Israel: this city shall surely be given over and delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.
And the Chaldeans shall come fighting against this city, and they shall burn this city with fire and shall burn up the houses in which they used to burn incense on their roofs to Baal and pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to bitterness
For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah were alone doing the evil before my eyes from their youth.
For this city has been upon my anger and upon my wrath from the day when they built it and until this day, to remove it from before my face
because of all the evil deeds of the sons of Israel and Judah which they did, they themselves and their kings and their rulers and their priests and their prophets, men of Judah and those who dwell in Jerusalem
and they turned to me the back and not the face, and I taught them early, and I taught, and they did not listen to take instruction
and they placed their defilements in the house upon which my name was called, in their uncleannesses
And they built the altars to Baal, those in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and their daughters to Molech the king, which I did not command them, and it did not come up on my heart to do this abomination, for Judah to sin.
And now thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the city of which you say, it shall be given into the hands of the king of Babylon, by sword and by famine and by pestilence.
Behold, I am gathering them from all the land where I scattered them there in my anger and in my wrath and in great provocation, and I will bring them back to this place and I will settle them, confident.
And they shall be to me for a people, and I shall be to them for God.
And I will give them another way and another heart, to fear me all their days, for good to them and to their children after them.
And I will make with them an everlasting covenant, which I will by no means turn away from following after them, and I will give my fear into their heart, so that they may not depart from me
And I will visit to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness and with all heart and with all soul
For thus said the Lord: just as I brought upon this people all these great evils, so I will bring upon them all the good things which I spoke concerning them
And fields will still be acquired in the land of which you say, It is uninhabited because of men and beasts, and it has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans.
And they shall acquire fields with silver, and you shall write a scroll and seal it and witness witnesses in the land of Benjamin and around Jerusalem and in the cities of Judah and in the cities of the hill country and in the cities of the lowland and in the cities of the Negeb, because I will turn back their captives.
