The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his camp and all the land of his dominion were making war against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah, saying:
Thus said the Lord: Go to Zedekiah king of Judah, and you shall say to him, Thus said the Lord: By giving it will be given, this city, into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will seize it and burn it with fire.
and you shall by no means be saved from his hand, and you shall be surely seized and given into his hands, and your eyes shall see his eyes, and his mouth shall speak with your mouth, and you shall enter into Babylon
In peace you shall die, and as they wept for your fathers who reigned before you, so they shall weep for you also, “Ah, lord!” they shall beat their breast over you, for I have spoken a word, says the Lord.
And the force of the king of Babylon was making war against Jerusalem and against the cities of Judah, against Lachish and against Azekah, because these were left among the cities of Judah, fortified cities.
And all the princes and all the people who had entered into the covenant to send away each his male servant and each his female servant turned back with them and brought them back as servants and as maidservants.
Thus said the Lord the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day when I took them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying
When six years are fulfilled, you shall send away your Hebrew brother who will be sold to you and will serve you six years, and you shall send him away free; and they did not listen to me and did not incline their ear
and they turned back today to do what is right before my eyes, to proclaim release each to his neighbor, and they completed a covenant before me in the house over which my name was called on it
And you turned back and profaned my name, to turn back each his male servant and each his female servant, whom you sent away free in their soul to you, for male servants and female servants
Therefore thus said the Lord: You did not listen to me to proclaim release, each to his neighbor; behold, I proclaim release to you for the sword and for death and for famine, and I will give you into dispersion among all the kingdoms of the earth.
And I will give the men who have passed by my covenant, who did not establish my covenant, which they made before my face, the calf which they made, to work for it
and Zedekiah the king of Judea and their rulers I will give into the hands of their enemies, and the power of the king of Babylon to those who are fleeing away from them
Behold, I am appointing, says the Lord, and I will bring them back into this land, and they shall make war against it and take it and burn it with fire, and the cities of Judah; and I will give them desolate, without inhabitants.
