After this Job opened his mouth

And he cursed his day, saying

Perish the day in which I was born, and the night in which they said, Behold, a male child.

That day let it be darkness, and may the Lord not seek it from above, nor may brightness come into it.

Let darkness and the shadow of death take it; let gloom come upon it.

May that day and that night be cursed; let darkness take it away; let it not be among the days of a year, nor be numbered among the days of months.

But let that night be pain, and let no rejoicing nor gladness come upon it.

Let him who curses that day curse it, the one who is about to subdue the great sea monster.

Let the stars of that night be darkened; let it await and not come into light, and let it not see the dawn rising.

because it did not shut the doors of my mother’s womb, for then it would have removed pain from my eyes

Why indeed did I not die in the womb, and having come out from the belly, did I not immediately perish?

Why then did knees meet me, and why then did I suck breasts?

Now, having lain down, I would have been quiet; sleeping, too, I would have rested.

with kings, counselors of the earth, who exulted over swords

or with princes, whose gold is much, who filled their houses with silver

or like an untimely birth going out from a mother’s womb, or like infants who have not seen light

There the ungodly ceased from wrathful anger; there the wearied in body rested.

And the eternal ones heard not the voice of the taskmaster together at the same time.

The small and the great are there, and the servant is not fearing his master.

Why indeed is light given to those in bitterness, and life to souls in pain?

who long for death, and do not attain it, digging for it as for treasures

And they would rejoice exceedingly if they should find him.

Death is rest for a man, for God has shut him in against him.

For before my food my groaning comes; and I cry out, held fast by fear.

For the fear which I was anxious about has come to me, and what I had feared has met me.

I was neither at peace nor quiet nor at rest, and wrath came upon me
