Oh that someone would indeed weigh my anger and lift up my pains in a balance together
and indeed it would be heavier than the sand of the seashore; but as it seems, my words are worthless
For the arrows of the Lord are in my body, of which their wrath drinks up my blood; whenever I begin to speak, they pierce me.
For does the wild ass bray without fodder, or an ox low over a manger having food?
Can bread be eaten without salt? Or is there any flavor in empty words?
For my soul cannot cease from grief, for I see my food like the smell of a lion
For if he would grant and my request would come, and the Lord would give my hope
May the Lord, having begun, wound me, but may he not utterly destroy me.
Then let my city be a grave, over which I have leaped upon its walls; surely I would not spare myself on it, for I have not lied against the holy words of my God
For what is my strength, that I should endure? Or what is my time, that my soul should bear with me?
Is my strength the strength of stones, or are my flesh pieces of bronze?
Was there not trust in him, and help has departed from me?
He that withholds mercy from me, but the visitation of the Lord has overlooked me.
My nearest have not looked upon me, like winter torrents that fail, or like a wave they passed by me
who feared me have now fallen upon me like snow or frozen ice
Like it is melted away by becoming hot, it was not recognized, what it was
Thus I also was left by all; I perished, and became an alien.
See the ways of the Temanites, the paths of the Sabaeans, those who perceive from afar
and those who have trusted in cities and in wealth will owe shame
But indeed you also have rushed upon me mercilessly, so that, seeing my wound, you feared
For did I ask anything of you, or do I need strength from you?
so as to save me from enemies or to rescue me from the hand of tyrants
Teach me, and I will be silent; if I have gone astray, declare it to me.
But as it seems, true words are worthless; for I do not ask strength from you
Nor will your reproof stop me with words, nor indeed will I endure the speech of your word.
But because you fall upon an orphan, and you leap upon your friend.
But now, having looked on your faces, I will not lie.
Sit now, and let it not be unjust; and again, join with the righteous.
For there is no injustice in my tongue, nor does my throat meditate understanding.
