And when Adonibezek king of Jerusalem heard that Jesus had taken Ai and utterly destroyed it, in the way they did to Jericho and its king, so they did to Ai and its king, and that the inhabitants of Gabaon had gone over to Jesus and to Israel,
and they feared among themselves greatly, for he knew that Gabaon was a great city, as if one of the metropolis cities, and all its men were strong
And Adoni-bezek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron and to Piram king of Jarmuth and to Japhia king of Lachish and to Debir king of Eglon, saying
Come up to me and help me, and let us make war on Gabaon, for they have deserted to Jesus and to the sons of Israel.
And the five kings of the Jebusites went up, the king of Jerusalem and the king of Hebron and the king of Jarmuth and the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon, they and all their people, and they encircled Gibeon and were besieging it
And the inhabitants of Gibeon sent to Joshua, to the camp of Israel, to Gilgal, saying, Do not loosen your hands from your servants; go up to us quickly and deliver us and help us, because all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country are gathered against us.
And Joshua went up from Gilgal, he himself and all the fighting people with him, all mighty in strength
And the Lord said to Joshua, Do not fear them, for into your hands I have given them; none of them shall be left before you.
And Joshua came upon them suddenly; all the night he entered from Gilgal.
And the Lord confused them before the sons of Israel, and the Lord crushed them with a great crushing in Gabaon, and they pursued them on the way of the ascent of Horonin, and they cut them down as far as Azeka and as far as Makeda.
And as they fled from before the sons of Israel on the descent of Oronin, the Lord cast down on them stones of hail from the heaven as far as Azekah, and those who died because of the stones of the hail became more than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword in the battle.
Then Joshua spoke to the Lord on the day when God delivered the Amorite under the hand of Israel, when he crushed them in Gabaon and they were crushed before the face of the sons of Israel, and Joshua said, Let the sun stand still over Gabaon, and the moon over the valley of Ailon.
And the sun stood still and the moon stayed, until God took vengeance on their enemies; and the sun stood in the middle of the sky; it did not go forward toward the west to the end of one day.
And there was not a day like this, neither the former nor the latter, for God to hear a man, because the Lord fought with Israel.
And these five kings fled and hid themselves in the cave that was in Makkedah
And it was reported to Joshua, saying, The five kings have been found hidden in the cave that is in Makkedah.
And Joshua said, Roll stones upon the mouth of the cave and set men to guard over them.
But do not stand still, pursuing after your enemies, and overtake their rear guard, and do not let them enter into their cities, for the Lord our God has delivered them into our hands
And it came to pass, when Joshua and all the sons of Israel had ceased striking them with a very great slaughter, until to the end, then those who were escaping were saved into the fortified cities.
And all the people returned to Joshua at Makkedah in safety, and none of the sons of Israel sharpened his tongue against him.
And Joshua said, Open the cave and bring out these five kings from the cave.
And they brought out the five kings from the cave: the king of Jerusalem and the king of Hebron and the king of Jarmuth and the king of Lachish and the king of Adullam
And when they had brought them out to Joshua, Joshua called together all Israel and those who began the war, those who went with him, saying to them, Go forward and put your feet on the necks of them. And they came near and put their feet on their necks.
And Joshua said to them, Do not fear them and do not be cowardly; be courageous and be strong, because thus the Lord will do to all your enemies whom you are fighting against them.
And Joshua killed them and hanged them on five trees, and they were hanging on the trees until evening
And it came to pass at sunset that Joshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees and threw them into the cave where they had fled there, and they rolled stones against the cave until this very day
And they captured Makkedah on that day, and they killed it with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed every one breathing in it, and no one was left in it, one who had been preserved alive and one who had escaped, and they did to the king of Makkedah as they did to the king of Jericho.
And Jesus went, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah to Libnah, and he besieged Libnah.
And the Lord gave it into the hands of Israel, and they took it and its king, and they killed it with the edge of the sword, and every one breathing in it; and there was not left in it even one who had been saved and had escaped, and they did to its king as they had done to the king of Jericho
And Joshua and all Israel with him went from Libna to Lachish, and he encamped around it and besieged it.
And the Lord delivered Lachish into the hands of Israel, and they took it on the second day and struck it with the mouth of the sword and utterly destroyed it, as they did to Libnah.
Then Elam, king of Gazer, went up to help Lachish, and Joshua struck him with the mouth of the sword, and his people, until there was not left of them one having been saved and having escaped.
And Joshua and all Israel with him went from Lachish to Odollam and besieged it and encircled it and laid siege to it.
And the Lord delivered it into the hand of Israel, and he took it on that day and struck it with the mouth of the sword, and every one breathing in it they struck, according as they did to Lachish.
And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, to Hebron, and he encamped around it
And he struck it with the edge of the sword, and every one breathing, all that were in it, there was not one saved, in the way they did to Odollam, they utterly destroyed it and all that were in it
And Joshua turned back, and all Israel, to Debir, and having encircled it
They took it and its king and its villages, and they struck it with the mouth of the sword and utterly destroyed it, and every breathing thing in it; and they left no one saved in it, just as they did to Hebron and to its king, so they did to Debir and to its king
And Joshua struck all the land of the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland and Azdoth and its kings; he left none of them remaining, and every breathing thing of life he utterly destroyed, just as the Lord the God of Israel commanded.
from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, all Gosom as far as Gibeon
And Joshua struck all their kings and their land at one time, because the Lord the God of Israel fought together with Israel
