He has led me away and brought me into darkness and not light
Surely against me he has turned his hand all the day long
He has made my flesh and my skin grow old; he has broken my bones.
He has built against me and has surrounded my head and has toiled.
He made me dwell in dark places like those long dead.
He has built against me, and I shall not go out; he has made my bronze heavy.
Also when I cry and shout, he has shut out my prayer.
He has walled up my ways, he has blocked my paths, he has troubled me.
A bear lying in wait for me, a lion in secret places
He pursued one who had turned away, and he has made me cease; he has set me in ruins.
He bent his bow and set me up as a target for the arrow.
He brought into my kidneys the arrows of his quiver.
I have become a laughingstock to all my people, their song all the day long.
He has sated me with bitterness; he has made me drunk with gall.
And he has cast out my teeth with gravel; he has fed me with ashes.
And my soul has been thrust away from peace; I have forgotten good things.
And I said, my contention has perished, and my hope from the Lord.
I remembered my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and my gall.
My soul shall remember and ponder greatly against me.
This I will put to my heart; therefore I will endure.
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to a soul that will seek him, good.
And he will wait, and be silent, for the salvation of the Lord
It is good for a man when he bears a yoke in his youth
He will sit alone and be silent, because he has taken it upon himself.
Let him give his cheek to the one striking him; he will be filled with insults.
For the Lord will not cast off forever.
For the one who has humbled will have compassion according to the abundance of his mercy
For he did not answer from his heart, and he humbled the sons of man
To humble under his feet all the prisoners of the earth
to turn aside the judgment of a man before the face of the Most High
to condemn a man in his being judged, the Lord has not said it
Who has spoken thus and it came to pass, the Lord has not commanded it?
From the mouth of the Most High there will not come forth evils and the good.
Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin?
Our way has been examined and tested, and let us return to the Lord
Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to the Most High in heaven
We have sinned, we have acted ungodly, and you did not forgive.
You covered us in anger and chased us away; you killed, you did not spare us.
You have covered yourself with a cloud, because of prayer
You have made us as refuse and offscouring in the midst of the peoples.
All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.
Fear and anger have become to us, ruin and destruction
Streams of waters my eye will bring down for the crushing of the daughter of my people
My eye has been poured out, and I will not be silent, that there be no respite.
until the Lord looks down and sees from heaven
My eye has worn out over my soul, more than all the daughters of a city.
They hunted me down like a sparrow, my enemies, without cause.
They put my life to death in a pit, and they laid a stone upon me.
Water flowed over my head; I said, I am thrust away.
I called on your name, O Lord, from the lowest pit.
You heard my voice; do not hide your ears from my supplication.
You drew near for my help on the day in which I called on you; you said to me, Do not fear
You have pleaded my case, Lord; you have redeemed my life.
You have seen, O Lord, my troubles; you have judged my cause.
You have seen all their vengeance, all their thoughts against me
You have heard their reproach, all their schemes against me
The lips of those rising up against me and their plans against me all the day long
Their sitting down and their rising up, look upon their eyes.
You will repay them, Lord, a recompense according to the works of their hands
You will give them a covering of heart, your toil to them
You will pursue them in anger and you will utterly destroy them from under heaven, O Lord
