Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.
We have become orphans, there is no father; our mothers are like widows.
Our wood has come for exchange with our days.
Upon our neck we were pursued; we labored, we were not given rest.
Egypt gave a hand to Assyria, to be satisfied with their bread.
Our fathers sinned; they are no more. We have borne their iniquities.
Slaves have ruled over us; there is no one redeeming us from their hand.
We bring in our bread at the risk of our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.
Our skin was blackened like an oven, they were shriveled from the face of the storms of famine.
They humbled women in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah.
Princes were hung by their hand; elders were not honored.
The chosen ones took up lamentation, and young men grew weak under the wood.
And elders have ceased from the gate, chosen men from their songs have ceased
The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned into mourning.
The crown of our head has fallen; woe now to us, because we have sinned.
Because of this our heart has become painful; because of this our eyes have grown dark.

But you, Lord, will dwell forever; your throne is from generation to generation.
Why will you forget us forever; will you leave us for length of days?
Turn us back to you, Lord, and we shall be turned back; and renew our days as before.
For by thrusting away you thrust us away; you were angry with us exceedingly.
