The sound of whips and the sound of the shaking of wheels and of a horse pursuing and of a chariot leaping forth
ἱππέως ἀναβαίνοντος καὶ στιλβούσης ῥομφαίας καὶ ἐξαστραπτόντων ὅπλων καὶ πλήθους τραυματιῶν καὶ βαρείας πτώσεως καὶ οὐκ ἦν πέρας τοῖς ἔθνεσιν αὐτῆς καὶ ἀσθενήσουσιν ἐν τοῖς σώμασιν αὐτῶν
and of a rider mounting, and of a flashing sword, and of gleaming weapons, and of a multitude of wounded, and of a heavy fall, and there was no end to her nations, and they shall be weakened in their bodies
πλήθους πορνείας πόρνη καλὴ καὶ ἐπιχαρὴς ἡγουμένη φαρμάκων ἡ πωλοῦσα ἔθνη ἐν τῇ πορνείᾳ αὐτῆς καὶ φυλὰς ἐν τοῖς φαρμάκοις αὐτῆς
Because of the multitude of the harlotries of a beautiful and charming harlot, a mistress of sorceries, who sold nations in her harlotry and clans in her sorceries,
ἐγὼ ἐπὶ σέ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ καὶ ἀποκαλύψω τὰ ὀπίσω σου ἐπὶ τὸ πρόσωπόν σου καὶ δείξω ἔθνεσιν τὴν αἰσχύνην σου καὶ βασιλείαις τὴν ἀτιμίαν σου
Behold, I am against you, says the Lord God Almighty, and I will uncover your back parts upon your face, and I will show to the nations your shame and to kingdoms your dishonor.
And I will cast abomination upon you according to your uncleannesses, and I will make you an example.
ἔσται πᾶς ὁ ὁρῶν σε ἀποπηδήσεται ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἐρεῖ Δειλαία Νινευη τίς στενάξει αὐτήν πόθεν ζητήσω παράκλησιν αὐτῇ
And it shall be that everyone who sees you will leap away from you and will say, Wretched Nineveh, who will groan for her? From where shall I seek comfort for her?
μερίδα ἅρμοσαι χορδήν ἑτοίμασαι μερίδα Αμων ἡ κατοικοῦσα ἐν ποταμοῖς ὕδωρ κύκλῳ αὐτῆς ἧς ἡ ἀρχὴ θάλασσα καὶ ὕδωρ τὰ τείχη αὐτῆς
Prepare a portion, fit a cord, prepare a portion for Amon, she who dwells among rivers, waters around her, whose beginning was the sea, and water her walls.
and Ethiopia, her strength, and Egypt, and there is no end of the fleeing, and the Libyans became her helpers
αὐτὴ εἰς μετοικεσίαν πορεύσεται αἰχμάλωτος καὶ τὰ νήπια αὐτῆς ἐδαφιοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ ἀρχὰς πασῶν τῶν ὁδῶν αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔνδοξα αὐτῆς βαλοῦσιν κλήρους καὶ πάντες οἱ μεγιστᾶνες αὐτῆς δεθήσονται χειροπέδαις
And she herself shall go into captivity as an exile, and they shall dash her infants in pieces at the heads of all her roads, and over all her glorious things they shall cast lots, and all her great men shall be bound with handcuffs.
And you too will be drunk and will be disregarded, and you too will seek for yourself a refuge from enemies.
All your fortresses are fig trees having ripe figs; if they are shaken, they will fall into the mouth of the eater.
ὁ λαός σου ὡς γυναῖκες ἐν σοί τοῖς ἐχθροῖς σου ἀνοιγόμεναι ἀνοιχθήσονται πύλαι τῆς γῆς σου καὶ καταφάγεται πῦρ τοὺς μοχλούς σου
Behold, your people are like women in you; to your enemies the gates of your land, being opened, shall be opened, and fire shall devour your bars.
περιοχῆς ἐπίσπασαι σεαυτῇ καὶ κατακράτησον τῶν ὀχυρωμάτων σου ἔμβηθι εἰς πηλὸν καὶ συμπατήθητι ἐν ἀχύροις κατακράτησον ὑπὲρ πλίνθον
Draw for yourself water of siege, and strengthen your fortifications; go into the clay and be trampled in the straw; strengthen yourself over the brick mold.
There fire will consume you; the sword will utterly destroy you; it will consume you like a locust, and you will be weighed down like a grasshopper.
You multiplied your merchants more than the stars of heaven; the locust rushed on and spread out.
ὡς ἀττέλεβος ὁ σύμμικτός σου ὡς ἀκρὶς ἐπιβεβηκυῖα ἐπὶ φραγμὸν ἐν ἡμέραις πάγους ὁ ἥλιος ἀνέτειλεν καὶ ἀφήλατο καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω τὸν τόπον αὐτῆς οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς
Your mixed swarm has fled like a locust, like a grasshopper mounting on a wall in days of cold; the sun has risen and has flown away, and it has not known its place. Woe to them.
οἱ ποιμένες σου βασιλεὺς Ἀσσύριος ἐκοίμισεν τοὺς δυνάστας σου ἀπῆρεν ὁ λαός σου ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ ἐκδεχόμενος
Your shepherds have slumbered, the king of Assyria has put your mighty men to sleep; your people have departed to the mountains, and there was none gathering them up.
ἔστιν ἴασις τῇ συντριβῇ σου ἐφλέγμανεν ἡ πληγή σου πάντες οἱ ἀκούοντες τὴν ἀγγελίαν σου κροτήσουσιν χεῖρας ἐπὶ σέ διότι ἐπὶ τίνα οὐκ ἐπῆλθεν ἡ κακία σου διὰ παντός
There is no healing for your breaking; your wound has raged. All who hear the report about you will clap hands over you, because over whom has not your evil passed continually?
