And the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh, and Miriam died there, and she was buried there

And there was no water for the congregation, and they were gathered against Moses and Aaron.

And the people reviled Moses, saying, Would that we had died in the destruction of our brothers before the Lord.

And why did you bring up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, to kill us and our livestock?

And why did you bring us up out of Egypt to come to this evil place, a place where there is no sowing, neither figs nor vines nor pomegranates, and there is no water to drink?

And Moses and Aaron came from before the congregation to the entrance of the tent of testimony, and they fell on their faces, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them.

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying

Take the rod and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before them, and it will give its waters, and you will bring out water for them from the rock, and you will give drink to the congregation and their livestock.

And Moses took the rod that was before the Lord, as the Lord commanded.

And Moses and Aaron assembled the congregation before the rock, and he said to them, Hear me, you disobedient ones: shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?

And Moses, having lifted up his hand, struck the rock with the rod twice, and much water came out, and the assembly drank, and their cattle.

And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not believe to sanctify me before the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land that I have given them.

This is water of dispute, because the sons of Israel reviled before the Lord, and he was sanctified among them.

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the hardship that has found us.

And our fathers went down into Egypt, and we sojourned in Egypt for many days, and the Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers

And we cried out to the Lord, and the Lord heard our voice and, having sent an angel, brought us out of Egypt, and now we are in Kadesh, a city at the edge of your borders.

We will go through your land; we will not go through fields or through vineyards, and we will not drink water from your well. We will go on the king’s road; we will not turn aside to the right or to the left until we pass through your borders.

And Edom said to him, You shall not pass through me, lest I will go out to meet you in war.

And the sons of Israel say to him, We will pass along by the mountain; and if we drink of your water, I and the cattle, I will give you payment; but the matter is nothing; by the mountain we will pass along.

And he said, You shall not pass through by me. And Edom went out to meet him with a heavy crowd and with a strong hand.

And Edom was not willing to give Israel to pass through his borders, and Israel turned aside from him

And they set out from Kadesh, and the sons of Israel, the whole assembly, came to Mount Hor.

And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Hor, the mountain, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying,

Let Aaron be added to his people, because you shall not enter into the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because you provoked me at the water of the strife.

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor before all the congregation

and strip Aaron of his robe and clothe Eleazar his son, and Aaron, being added, let him die there

And Moses did as the Lord commanded, and he brought him up to Mount Hor before all the congregation.

And Aaron stripped off his garments and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron died on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

And all the congregation saw that Aaron was released, and all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.
