And Chananis the king of Arad, who dwelt by the wilderness, heard, for Israel came by the way of Atharin, and he made war against Israel and took from them captive spoil.

And Israel vowed a vow to the Lord and said, If you will indeed give this people into my hand, I will devote them to destruction, and their cities.

And the Lord listened to the voice of Israel and gave over the Canaanite under his hand, and he devoted him and his cities to destruction, and they called the name of that place Anathema

And they set out from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, and they went around the land of Edom, and the people became discouraged on the way.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses, saying, Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to kill us in the wilderness? For there is no bread and no water, and our soul is disgusted with the empty bread.

And the Lord sent among the people the deadly serpents, and they bit the people, and a very many people of the sons of Israel died.

And the people came to Moses and were saying, We have sinned, because we spoke against the Lord and against you; pray therefore to the Lord, and let him take away the serpent from us. And Moses prayed to the Lord for the people.

And the Lord said to Moses, Make for yourself a serpent and set it upon a sign, and it shall be that if a serpent bites a man, everyone who has been bitten, when he sees it, shall live.

And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a signal pole, and it happened that whenever a serpent bit a man, and he looked upon the bronze serpent, he lived.

And the sons of Israel set out and encamped in Oboth.

And having set out from Oboth, they encamped at Achelgaï, from beyond, in the wilderness that is opposite Moab toward the rising of the sun.

From there they set out and encamped in the ravine of Zared.

And from there having set out they encamped beyond Arnon in the wilderness, the part extending from the borders of the Amorites, for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and between the Amorite.

Therefore it is said in the book of the war of the Lord: he set Zoob on fire and the wadis of Arnon

and he appointed the wadis to dwell Ar, and it borders on the borders of Moab

And from there, the well; this is the well of which the Lord said to Moses, Gather the people, and I will give them water to drink.

Then Israel sang this song at the well: Begin for him.

A well they dug it, rulers cut it out, kings of nations in their kingdom, when they ruled them; and from a well to Mathanaim.

and from Mathanaim to Nahaliel and from Nahaliel to Bamoth

and from Bamoth into the valley that is in the plain of Moab, from the top of the hewn rock, which looks toward the face of the wilderness

And Moses sent ambassadors to Sihon king of the Amorites with peaceful words, saying

We will pass through your land; by the road we will go, we will not turn aside, neither into a field nor into a vineyard; we will not drink water from your well; by the king’s road we will go until we pass by your borders.

And Sihon did not give Israel to pass through his borders, and Sihon gathered all his people and went out to set in array against Israel in the wilderness, and he came to Jahaz and drew up in battle order against Israel

And Israel struck him with the slaughter of the sword, and they took possession of his land from Arnon as far as Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon, for Jazer is the boundary of the sons of Ammon.

And Israel took all these cities and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorrites in Heshbon and in all the places meeting it on the way.

For Heshbon is a city of Sihon king of the Amorrites, and he fought against the king of Moab formerly, and they took all his land from Aroer as far as Arnon

Therefore the proverb-makers will say, Come to Heshbon, that the city of Sihon may be built and prepared.

For a fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon, and it devoured as far as Moab and swallowed up the pillars of Arnon

Woe to you, Moab; you have perished, people of Chemosh; his sons were given over to escape, and his daughters to captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.

And their offspring shall perish, Heshbon as far as Dibon; and the women still kindled fire against Moab

And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites.

And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they took it and its villages, and they drove out the Amorite who was dwelling there.

And turning, they went up by the way that leads to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan went out to meet them, and all his people, to battle at Edrei

And the Lord said to Moses, Do not fear him, because I have delivered him into your hands, and all his people, and all his land, and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorrites, who was dwelling in Heshbon.

And he struck him and his sons and all his people, until there was left of him no survivor, and they inherited their land
