The Koine Bible

If you sit down to dine at the table of rulers, understand wisely what is set before you

and put your hand, knowing that you must prepare such things for yourself

But if you are more insatiable, do not desire his dishes, for these belong to a false life

Do not overstrain yourself, being poor, toward a rich man, but keep away by your own understanding.

If you set your eye upon it, it will nowhere appear, for wings have been made ready for it like an eagle’s, and it returns to the house of its overseer.

Do not dine with a grudging man, nor desire his food.

For as if one should swallow a hair, so he eats and drinks

Do not bring him in to yourself, and eat your morsel with him, for he will vomit it up and will spoil your good words.

Speak nothing into the ears of a fool, lest he sneer at your prudent words.

Do not remove ancient boundaries, and into the possession of orphans do not enter.

For their redeemer is strong, the Lord, and he will judge their case with you

Apply your heart to instruction, and prepare your ears for words of understanding.

Do not withhold from disciplining a child, for if you strike him with a rod, he will not surely die.

For you will strike him with a rod, and you will deliver his soul from death.

My son, if your heart become wise, you will gladden my heart also.

And your lips will speak with my lips if they are right.

Let not your heart envy sinners, but be in fear of the Lord all the day.

For if you keep them, there will be offspring for you, and your hope will not depart.

Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct the thoughts of your heart.

Do not be a drunkard, nor stretch yourself out with dealings in meats and purchases.

For every drunkard and fornicatior will become poor, and will be clothed in torn and ragged garments, every sleepy one

Listen, son, to your father who begot you, and do not despise because your mother has grown old.

A righteous father nurtures well, and over a wise son his soul rejoices.

Let your father and your mother rejoice over you, and let her who bore you be glad.

Give me, my son, your heart, and let your eyes keep my ways.

For a foreign house is a pierced jar, and a narrow well is a foreign one.

For this one will come to destruction suddenly, and every lawless one will be consumed.

To whom is woe? To whom confusion? To whom contention? To whom are annoyances and quarrels? To whom are bruises without cause? Whose eyes are dim?

Not of those who linger over wines, not of those who track where drinking parties happen

Do not get drunk with wine, but associate with righteous men, and associate in walkings; for if you give your eyes to bowls and cups, afterward you will walk more naked than the top.

And the last, like one struck by a serpent, stretches out, and like one poisoned by a horned serpent, its venom is poured out on him.

Your eyes will see strange things; then your mouth will speak crooked things.

and you shall lie down as in the heart of the sea and as a helmsman in a great surge

And you will say, They beat me, and I did not feel it; and they mocked me, and I did not know. When will it be morning, that I may come and seek those with whom I will go?
