Psalms 21 — Rahlfs Septuagint

τὸ τέλος ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀντιλήμψεως τῆς ἑωθινῆς ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ

For the end, concerning the help of the dawn, a psalm for David

2

O God, my God, attend to me; why have you abandoned me far from my salvation? The words of my transgressions.

3

θεός μου κεκράξομαι ἡμέρας καὶ οὐκ εἰσακούσῃ καὶ νυκτός καὶ οὐκ εἰς ἄνοιαν ἐμοί

My God, I will cry by day, and you will not hear; and by night, and it is not as folly to me.

4

δὲ ἐν ἁγίοις κατοικεῖς ὁ ἔπαινος Ισραηλ

But you dwell among the holy things, the praise of Israel.

5

σοὶ ἤλπισαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἤλπισαν καὶ ἐρρύσω αὐτούς

In you our fathers hoped; they hoped, and you delivered them.

6

σὲ ἐκέκραξαν καὶ ἐσώθησαν ἐπὶ σοὶ ἤλπισαν καὶ οὐ κατῃσχύνθησαν

To you they cried out, and they were saved; on you they hoped, and they were not put to shame.

7

δέ εἰμι σκώληξ καὶ οὐκ ἄνθρωπος ὄνειδος ἀνθρώπου καὶ ἐξουδένημα λαοῦ

But I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of mankind and despised by the people

8

οἱ θεωροῦντές με ἐξεμυκτήρισάν με ἐλάλησαν ἐν χείλεσιν ἐκίνησαν κεφαλήν

All those who saw me mocked me; they spoke with lips, they shook the head.

9

ἐπὶ κύριον ῥυσάσθω αὐτόν σωσάτω αὐτόν ὅτι θέλει αὐτόν

He hoped in the Lord; let him rescue him, let him save him, because he desires him.

10

σὺ εἶ ὁ ἐκσπάσας με ἐκ γαστρός ἡ ἐλπίς μου ἀπὸ μαστῶν τῆς μητρός μου

For you are the one who drew me out from the womb; my hope from my mother’s breasts.

11

σὲ ἐπερρίφην ἐκ μήτρας ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου θεός μου εἶ σύ

Upon you I was cast from the womb; from my mother’s belly you are my God.

12

ἀποστῇς ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ ὅτι θλῖψις ἐγγύς ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ βοηθῶν

Do not stand far from me, for affliction is near, for there is no one helping.

13

με μόσχοι πολλοί ταῦροι πίονες περιέσχον με

Many bulls surrounded me; fat bulls encircled me.

14

ἐπ᾿ ἐμὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν ὡς λέων ὁ ἁρπάζων καὶ ὠρυόμενος

They have opened their mouth against me, like a lion seizing and roaring.

15

I have been poured out like water, and all my bones have been scattered; my heart has become like melting wax in the midst of my belly.

16

ὡς ὄστρακον ἡ ἰσχύς μου καὶ ἡ γλῶσσά μου κεκόλληται τῷ λάρυγγί μου καὶ εἰς χοῦν θανάτου κατήγαγές με

My strength has dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue has stuck to my throat, and you have brought me down into the dust of death.

ἐκύκλωσάν με κύνες πολλοί συναγωγὴ πονηρευομένων περιέσχον με ὤρυξαν χεῖράς μου καὶ πόδας

For many dogs have surrounded me; a gathering of evildoers has encompassed me; they dug my hands and my feet.

18

πάντα τὰ ὀστᾶ μου αὐτοὶ δὲ κατενόησαν καὶ ἐπεῖδόν με

I counted all my bones; but they looked and stared at me.

19

τὰ ἱμάτιά μου ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν ἱματισμόν μου ἔβαλον κλῆρον

They divided my garments among themselves, and over my clothing they cast lots.

20

δέ κύριε μὴ μακρύνῃς τὴν βοήθειάν μου εἰς τὴν ἀντίλημψίν μου πρόσχες

But you, Lord, do not make my help far away; attend to my help.

21

ἀπὸ ῥομφαίας τὴν ψυχήν μου καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς κυνὸς τὴν μονογενῆ μου

Deliver my soul from the sword, and my only one from the hand of a dog

22

με ἐκ στόματος λέοντος καὶ ἀπὸ κεράτων μονοκερώτων τὴν ταπείνωσίν μου

Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the unicorns my humiliation

23

τὸ ὄνομά σου τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς μου ἐν μέσῳ ἐκκλησίας ὑμνήσω σε

I will declare your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will praise you

24

φοβούμενοι κύριον αἰνέσατε αὐτόν ἅπαν τὸ σπέρμα Ιακωβ δοξάσατε αὐτόν φοβηθήτωσαν αὐτὸν ἅπαν τὸ σπέρμα Ισραηλ

You who fear the Lord, praise him; all the seed of Jacob, glorify him; let all the seed of Israel fear him.

25

For he did not despise or abhor the supplication of the poor, nor did he turn his face away from me, and when I cried to him, he heard me

26

σοῦ ὁ ἔπαινός μου ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ μεγάλῃ τὰς εὐχάς μου ἀποδώσω ἐνώπιον τῶν φοβουμένων αὐτόν

From you is my praise in a great assembly; my vows I will render before those who fear him.

27

πένητες καὶ ἐμπλησθήσονται καὶ αἰνέσουσιν κύριον οἱ ἐκζητοῦντες αὐτόν ζήσονται αἱ καρδίαι αὐτῶν εἰς αἰῶνα αἰῶνος

The poor shall eat and be filled, and those who seek him shall praise the Lord; their hearts shall live unto ages of ages.

28

καὶ ἐπιστραφήσονται πρὸς κύριον πάντα τὰ πέρατα τῆς γῆς καὶ προσκυνήσουσιν ἐνώπιόν σου πᾶσαι αἱ πατριαὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν

All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you.

29

τοῦ κυρίου ἡ βασιλεία καὶ αὐτὸς δεσπόζει τῶν ἐθνῶν

For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and he himself rules over the nations.

30

They ate and all the prosperous of the earth bowed down; before him all who go down to the earth shall fall down, and my soul lives for him

31

τὸ σπέρμα μου δουλεύσει αὐτῷ ἀναγγελήσεται τῷ κυρίῳ γενεὰ ἡ ἐρχομένη

And my seed shall serve him; the coming generation shall be announced to the Lord.

32

ἀναγγελοῦσιν τὴν δικαιοσύνην αὐτοῦ λαῷ τῷ τεχθησομένῳ ὅτι ἐποίησεν ὁ κύριος

and they will declare his righteousness to a people to be born, because the Lord has done it
