when he set Mesopotamia of Syria and Syria of Zobah on fire, and Joab returned and struck the Valley of Salt, twelve thousand
O God, you have cast us off and broken us down; you were angry and you had compassion on us
You have shaken the earth and troubled it; heal its breaches, for it has been shaken.
You showed your people hard things; you made us drink the wine of deep staggering.
You have given to those who fear you a signal to flee from the face of the bow. Selah
that your beloved ones may be delivered, save with your right hand and answer me
God has spoken in his holy place; I will exult and I will divide up Shechem, and I will measure out the valley of tents.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the strength of my head; Judah is my king.
Moab is the pot of my hope; over Idumea I will stretch out my shoe; foreigners have been subjected to me
Who will bring me into the city of encampment? Who will lead me as far as Idumea?
Is it not you, God, who rejected us, and will you not go out, God, with our armies?
Give us help from affliction, and vain is the salvation of man.
But in God we will do power, and he himself will bring to nothing those afflicting us.
