1 A psalm for Asaph. O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have made Jerusalem a fruit watchtower.
2 They have set the dead bodies of your servants as food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your holy ones for the beasts of the earth
3 They poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one burying them.
4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and derision to those around us
5 How long, O Lord, wilt thou be angry? Will thy jealousy be burned to the end like fire?
6 Pour out your anger upon the nations that do not know you, and upon kingdoms that have not called upon your name.
7 For they devoured Jacob and laid waste his place.
8 Do not remember our ancient lawless deeds; let your compassions quickly go before us, for we have become very poor greatly.
9 Help us, O God our Savior, for the sake of the glory of your name; Lord, deliver us and be propitious to our sins for the sake of your name
10 lest the nations say, Where is their God? and let the vengeance of the blood of your slaves that has been poured out be made known among the nations before our eyes
11 Let the groaning of the fettered come before you; according to the greatness of your arm preserve the sons of those who have been put to death.
12 Render to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom, their reproach with which they reproached you, O Lord
13 But we, your people and the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will declare your praise
