Song of Solomon 1
Greek text followed verse by verse by a direct English translation.
Text size:
Let him kiss me with kisses of his mouth, for your breasts are better than wine
And the fragrance of your perfumes is above all aromatics; ointment poured out is your name; therefore maidens loved you.
They drew you after you for the scent of your ointments; we will run. The king brought me into his chamber. Let us rejoice and be glad in you; we will love your breasts more than wine. Uprightness has loved you.
I am black and beautiful, daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon
Do not look at me because I am dark, because the sun has looked on me. The sons of my mother fought against me; they made me a keeper in the vineyards. My own vineyard I did not keep.
Tell me, you whom my soul loved, where do you pasture, where do you lie down at noon, lest I become like one who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions
If you do not know yourself, O beautiful among women, go out by the tracks of the flocks, and pasture your kids beside the dwellings of the shepherds.
To my mare among the chariots of Pharaoh I have compared you, my neighbor.
How beautiful are your cheeks, like turtledoves; your neck, like strings of beads.
We will make for you likenesses of gold with studs of silver
Until the king is at his couch, my nard has given its fragrance.
A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me; between my breasts he shall lodge.
My kinsman is to me a cluster of henna in the vineyards of Engaddi
Behold, you are fair, my companion; behold, you are fair; your eyes are doves.
Behold, you are beautiful, my kinsman, and indeed pleasant; our bed is shaded.
The beams of our houses are cedars, our ceilings are cypresses.
