εἶ κύριε καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔργα σου δίκαια καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ ὁδοί σου ἐλεημοσύνη καὶ ἀλήθεια σὺ κρίνεις τὸν αἰῶνα
Righteous are you, Lord, and all your works are righteous, and all your ways are mercy and truth; you judge the age.
νῦν σύ κύριε μνήσθητί μου καὶ ἐπίβλεψον καὶ μή με ἐκδικήσῃς ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις μου καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἀγνοήμασίν μου καὶ τῶν πατέρων μου οἷς ἥμαρτον ἐναντίον σου
And now, you, Lord, remember me and look upon me and do not avenge me for my sins and for my ignorances and those of my fathers, in which they sinned before you
παρήκουσα τῶν ἐντολῶν σου καὶ ἔδωκας ἡμᾶς εἰς ἁρπαγὴν καὶ αἰχμαλωσίαν καὶ θάνατον καὶ εἰς παραβολὴν καὶ λάλημα καὶ ὀνειδισμὸν ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐν οἷς ἡμᾶς διεσκόρπισας
and I disobeyed your commandments and you gave us over to plundering and captivity and death and for a byword and derision and reproach among all the nations among whom you scattered us
νῦν πολλαί σου αἱ κρίσεις ὑπάρχουσιν ἀληθιναὶ ποιῆσαι ἐξ ἐμοῦ περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν μου ὅτι οὐκ ἐποιήσαμεν τὰς ἐντολάς σου καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθημεν ἀληθινῶς ἐνώπιόν σου
And now many of your judgments are true to make from me concerning my sins, because we did not do your commandments and we did not walk truly before you.
νῦν κατὰ τὸ ἀρεστόν σου ποίησον μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἐπίταξον ἀναλαβεῖν τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐξ ἐμοῦ ὅπως ἀπολυθῶ ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς γῆς καὶ γένωμαι γῆ διὸ λυσιτελεῖ μοι ἀποθανεῖν μᾶλλον ἢ ζῆν ὅτι ὀνειδισμοὺς ψευδεῖς ἤκουσα καὶ λύπη πολλὴ μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ κύριε ἐπίταξον ὅπως ἀπολυθῶ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνάγκης ταύτης ἀπόλυσόν με εἰς τὸν τόπον τὸν αἰώνιον καὶ μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου κύριε ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ διὸ λυσιτελεῖ μοι ἀποθανεῖν μᾶλλον ἢ βλέπειν ἀνάγκην πολλὴν ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου καὶ μὴ ἀκούειν ὀνειδισμούς
And now, according to what is pleasing to you, do with me, and command my spirit to be taken up from me, so that I may be released from before the face of the earth and become earth; therefore it is better for me to die rather than to live, because I have heard false reproaches and much sorrow is with me. Lord, command that I may be released from this necessity; release me into the everlasting place, and do not turn your face away from me, Lord, because it is better for me to die rather than to see much necessity in my life and not to hear reproaches.
τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ συνέβη Σαρρα τῇ θυγατρὶ Ραγουηλ τοῦ ἐν Ἐκβατάνοις τῆς Μηδίας καὶ αὐτὴν ἀκοῦσαι ὀνειδισμοὺς ὑπὸ μιᾶς τῶν παιδισκῶν τοῦ πατρὸς ἑαυτῆς
On that day it happened also to Sarah the daughter of Raguel, who was in Ecbatana of Media, to hear reproaches from one of the maidservants of her father himself
ἦν ἐκδεδομένη ἀνδράσιν ἑπτά καὶ Ασμοδαῖος τὸ δαιμόνιον τὸ πονηρὸν ἀπέκτεννεν αὐτοὺς πρὶν ἢ γενέσθαι αὐτοὺς μετ᾿ αὐτῆς καθάπερ ἀποδεδειγμένον ἐστὶν ταῖς γυναιξίν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ἡ παιδίσκη σὺ εἶ ἡ ἀποκτέννουσα τοὺς ἄνδρας σου ἰδοὺ ἤδη ἀπεκδέδοσαι ἑπτὰ ἀνδράσιν καὶ ἑνὸς αὐτῶν οὐκ ὠνομάσθης
for she had been given to seven men, and Asmodeus the evil demon was killing them before they could be with her, as is demonstrated with women. And the maid said to her, You are the one who kills your husbands; behold, already you have been given to seven men, and by none of them were you named.
ἡμᾶς μαστιγοῖς περὶ τῶν ἀνδρῶν σου ὅτι ἀπέθανον βάδιζε μετ᾿ αὐτῶν καὶ μὴ ἴδοιμεν υἱόν σου μηδὲ θυγατέρα εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
Why do you scourge us about your men because they died? Walk with them, and let us not see your son or your daughter forever.
τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐλυπήθη ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν καὶ ἀναβᾶσα εἰς τὸ ὑπερῷον τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς ἠθέλησεν ἀπάγξασθαι καὶ πάλιν ἐλογίσατο καὶ λέγει μήποτε ὀνειδίσωσιν τὸν πατέρα μου καὶ ἐροῦσιν αὐτῷ μία σοι ὑπῆρχεν θυγάτηρ ἀγαπητὴ καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπήγξατο ἀπὸ τῶν κακῶν καὶ κατάξω τὸ γῆρας τοῦ πατρός μου μετὰ λύπης εἰς ᾅδου χρησιμώτερόν μοί ἐστιν μὴ ἀπάγξασθαι ἀλλὰ δεηθῆναι τοῦ κυρίου ὅπως ἀποθάνω καὶ μηκέτι ὀνειδισμοὺς ἀκούσω ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου
On that day she was grieved in soul and wept, and going up to the upper room of her father she wanted to hang herself; and again she considered and says, Perhaps they will reproach my father and say to him, One daughter, a beloved one, there was to you, and she herself hanged herself because of the evils. And I will bring down the old age of my father with sorrow to Hades. It is more useful for me not to hang myself but to beg the Lord so that I may die and no longer hear reproaches in my life.
αὐτῷ τῷ καιρῷ διαπετάσασα τὰς χεῖρας πρὸς τὴν θυρίδα ἐδεήθη καὶ εἶπεν εὐλογητὸς εἶ θεὲ ἐλεήμων καὶ εὐλογητὸν τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας καὶ εὐλογησάτωσάν σε πάντα τὰ ἔργα σου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
At that time, having spread out her hands toward the window, she prayed and said, Blessed are you, merciful God, and blessed is your name unto the ages, and let all your works bless you forever
And now toward you I have lifted up my face and my eyes.
Say that I be released from the earth and no longer hear reproaches from me anymore
You know, Master, that I am pure from all uncleanness of a man.
οὐχὶ ἐμόλυνά μου τὸ ὄνομα καὶ οὐδὲ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ πατρός μου ἐν τῇ γῇ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας μου μονογενής εἰμι τῷ πατρί μου καὶ οὐχ ὑπάρχει αὐτῷ ἕτερον τέκνον ἵνα κληρονομήσῃ αὐτόν οὐδὲ ἀδελφὸς αὐτῷ ἐγγὺς οὔτε συγγενὴς αὐτῷ ὑπάρχει ἵνα συντηρήσω ἐμαυτὴν αὐτῷ γυναῖκα ἤδη ἀπώλοντό μοι ἑπτά καὶ ἵνα τί μοί ἐστιν ἔτι ζῆν καὶ εἰ μή σοι δοκεῖ ἀποκτεῖναί με κύριε νῦν εἰσάκουσον ὀνειδισμόν μου
And have I not defiled my name and also my father’s name in the land of my captivity? I am an only child to my father, and there is no other child for him to inherit him, nor is there a brother near him, nor a kinsman for him, so that I might keep myself for him as a wife. Already seven have been lost to me, and why is it still for me to live? And if it does not seem good to you to kill me, Lord, now hear my reproach.
At that time the prayer of both was heard before the glory of God
ἀπεστάλη Ραφαηλ ἰάσασθαι τοὺς δύο Τωβιν ἀπολῦσαι τὰ λευκώματα ἀπὸ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτοῦ ἵνα ἴδῃ τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς τὸ φῶς τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ Σαρραν τὴν Ραγουηλ δοῦναι αὐτὴν Τωβια τῷ υἱῷ Τωβιθ γυναῖκα καὶ λῦσαι Ασμοδαιον τὸ δαιμόνιον τὸ πονηρὸν ἀπ᾿ αὐτῆς διότι Τωβια ἐπιβάλλει κληρονομῆσαι αὐτὴν παρὰ πάντας τοὺς θέλοντας λαβεῖν αὐτήν ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἐπέστρεψεν Τωβιθ ἀπὸ τῆς αὐλῆς εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ καὶ Σαρρα ἡ τοῦ Ραγουηλ καὶ αὐτὴ κατέβη ἐκ τοῦ ὑπερῴου
And Raphael was sent to heal the two Tobits, to remove the whitenesses from his eyes, so that he might see with his eyes the light of God, and Sarah of Raguel, to give her to Tobias the son of Tobit as a wife, and to release Asmodaeus, the evil demon, from her, because Tobias had a right to inherit her rather than all those who wanted to take her. At that time Tobit returned from the courtyard into his house, and Sarah of Raguel, she also came down from the upper room.
