1
And the child went out, and the angel with him, and the dog went out with him, and he went along with them, and both went on, and one night happened upon them, and they lodged beside the river Tigris.
4
And the angel said to him, Split open the fish and take out its gall and its heart and its liver, and lay them aside with yourself, and throw away the entrails; for the gall and the heart and its liver are useful as a medicine.
8
and the heart and the liver of the fish said to him, smoke before a man or a woman with whom there is an encounter of a demon or evil spirit, and every encounter will flee from him, and they will not remain with him forever
11
Raphael says to the boy Tobias, Brother, and said to him, Behold, I am. And he said to him, We must lodge this night in Raguel’s house, and the man is your kinsman, and he has a daughter whose name is Sarah.
12
and there is no male son nor daughter belonging to him except Sarra alone, and you are nearest to her above all men to inherit her, and the things that belong to her father are rightfully for you to inherit, and the girl is prudent and courageous and very beautiful, and her father is good
13
And he said, It has been judged right for you to take her, and hear me, brother, and I will speak to the father about the girl this very night, so that we may take her for you as a bride; and when we return from Ragau, we will make her marriage, and I know that Raguel will by no means be able to prevent her from you or to betroth her to another, for he would incur death according to the judgment of the book of Moses, because he knows that the inheritance belongs to you to take his daughter before every man. And now hear me, brother, and we will speak about the girl this very night, and we will betroth her to you, and when we return from Ragau we will take her and bring her with us into your house.
14
Then Tobias answered and said to Raphael, Azariah, brother, I have heard that seven have already been given to her as husbands and have died in their bridal chambers, the night whenever they went in to her, and they were dying; and I have heard them saying that a demon kills them
15
And now I fear that he does not wrong her, but whoever wishes to draw near her kills him. I am my father’s only son; let me not die and bring down the life of my father and of my mother with sorrow because of me to their grave, and another son does not exist for them to bury them.
16
And he says to him, Do you not remember the commands of your father, that he commanded you to take a wife from your father’s house? And now listen to me, brother, and do not give place to this demon, and take her, and I know that this night a wife will be given to you.
17
And when you enter into the bridal chamber, take from the liver of the fish and the heart, and put them upon the ashes of the incense, and the smell will go and the demon will smell it and will flee, and no longer at all will it appear around her forever.
18
And when you are about to be with her, rise up first, both of you, and pray and beg the Lord of heaven, that mercy may become and salvation upon you, and do not fear, for she has been apportioned to you before the age, and you will save her, and she will go with you, and I assume that children will be to you from her, and they will be to you as brothers. Do not keep this saying.
19
And when Tobias heard the words of Raphael and that there was for him a sister from the seed of the house of his father, he loved her exceedingly, and his heart was joined to her
