But when I came down to my house and Anna my wife and Tobias my son were restored to me, at the feast of Pentecost, which is holy, the feast of seven weeks, a good dinner was prepared for me, and I lay down to eat

And I observed many meals, and I said to my son, Go and bring whoever of our brothers you may find in need, who remembers the Lord, and behold, I will wait for you

ἐλθὼν εἶπεν πάτερ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ γένους ἡμῶν ἐστραγγαλωμένος ἔρριπται ἐν τῇ ἀγορᾷ

And having come, he said, Father, one of our kin, strangled, has been thrown in the marketplace.

πρὶν ἢ γεύσασθαί με ἀναπηδήσας ἀνειλόμην αὐτὸν εἴς τι οἴκημα ἕως οὗ ἔδυ ὁ ἥλιος

And I, before I had tasted, having jumped up, carried him away into a certain room until the sun went down

ἐπιστρέψας ἐλουσάμην καὶ ἤσθιον τὸν ἄρτον μου ἐν λύπῃ

And having returned, I washed myself, and I ate my bread in grief.

And I remembered the prophecy of Amos, as he said, Your feasts shall be turned into mourning, and all your rejoicings into lamentation, and I wept

ὅτε ἔδυ ὁ ἥλιος ᾠχόμην καὶ ὀρύξας ἔθαψα αὐτόν

And when the sun had set, I went away, and after digging I buried him.

οἱ πλησίον ἐπεγέλων λέγοντες οὐκέτι φοβεῖται φονευθῆναι περὶ τοῦ πράγματος τούτου καὶ ἀπέδρα καὶ ἰδοὺ πάλιν θάπτει τοὺς νεκρούς

And the neighbors were laughing, saying, He is no longer afraid to be killed over this matter, and he fled, and behold, again he buries the dead.

And in that same night I departed, after burying, and I slept defiled beside the wall of the courtyard, and my face was uncovered.

And I did not know that sparrows were in the wall, and while my eyes were open the sparrows excreted warm dung into my eyes, and white spots came to be on my eyes, and I went to physicians, and they did not help me. But Achiacharos nourished me until he went into Elymais.

ἡ γυνή μου Αννα ἠριθεύετο ἐν τοῖς γυναικείοις

And my wife Anna counted among the women.

ἀπέστελλε τοῖς κυρίοις καὶ ἀπέδωκαν αὐτῇ καὶ αὐτοὶ τὸν μισθὸν προσδόντες καὶ ἔριφον

and she was sending to the masters, and they returned it to her, and they themselves, adding the wage, and a kid-goat

But when she came to me, she began to cry out, and I said to her, From where is the kid? It is not stolen, is it? Return it to the owners, for it is not lawful to eat what is stolen.

And she said, A gift has been given to me in addition to the wages, and they did not believe her and were saying to return it to the masters; and I was ashamed before her. But she, answering, said to me, Where are your alms and your righteous deeds? Behold, all things are known with you.
