There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies and deny the master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.

And many will follow their immoralities, through whom the way of the truth will be blasphemed.

And with greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago does not delay, and their destruction does not sleep.

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus in chains of darkness, delivering them to judgment,

And did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, bringing a flood upon the world of the ungodly,

and he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by burning them to ashes, setting them forth as an example for the ungodly to come,

And he rescued righteous Lot, who was distressed by the lawless conduct of the wicked,

For the righteous man, dwelling among them, was tormented day after day by the lawless deeds, both in sight and hearing—

The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, while keeping the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

But especially those who follow the flesh in the lust of defilement and despise authority. Bold, self-willed, they do not tremble at glory, blaspheming,

where angels, being greater in strength and power, do not bring a blasphemous judgment against them.

But these, like irrational animals born naturally for capture and destruction, blaspheming in what they do not understand, will also be destroyed in their corruption.

Being wrongfully treated as a wage of wrongdoing; considering pleasure in the day as luxury, stains and blemishes indulging in their deceptions, feasting with you,

Having eyes full of an adulteress and unceasing sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, children of curses,

Having left the straight way, they wandered, following the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.

But he was held under the control of his own lawlessness; a mute beast, when it uttered the voice of a human, restrained the madness of the prophet.

These are wells without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the gloom of darkness has been reserved.

For they speak arrogantly with empty vanity, enticing those who have just escaped from those who live in error by fleshly desires of sensuality,

Promising them freedom, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whoever is overcome by someone is enslaved to that one.

For if, having escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they become entangled again and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.

The true proverb has happened to them: A dog returns to its own vomit, and a pig, after washing, to wallowing in the mud.
