Now in Antioch, there were prophets and teachers in the church: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.

Then, after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

They, having been sent out by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus,

And when they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they had John as their attendant.

And having gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a certain man, a Jewish magician and false prophet, whose name was Bar-Jesus,

who was with the deputy Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. This one, having called Barnabas and Saul, sought to hear the word of God.

But Elymas the magician opposed them, for that is how his name is interpreted, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

But Saul, who is also Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him

He said, O full of all deceit and all fraud, son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop twisting the straight ways of the Lord?

And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun, for a time. Immediately a mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

Then the deputy, seeing what had happened, believed, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.

And having set sail from Paphos, those with Paul came to Perga of Pamphylia; but John, having withdrawn from them, returned to Jerusalem.

But they, passing through Perga, came to Antioch in Pisidia, and on the Sabbath day they entered the synagogue and sat down.

After the reading of the law and the prophets, the chief synagogue officers sent to them, saying, Men brothers, if there is any word of encouragement for the people, speak.

Then Paul stood up and, shaking his hand, said: Men of Israel and those who fear God, listen.

The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and exalted the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt, and with a strong arm he brought them out of it,

And for about forty years he bore with them in the wilderness,

And having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave their land as an inheritance.

for about four hundred and fifty years. And after these, he gave judges until Samuel the prophet.

And from there they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, forty years old.

And having removed him, he raised up David to be king over them, about whom he also testified, saying, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.

From this one God brought to Israel a savior Jesus, according to the promise,

John having proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel before his coming,

But when John had completed his course, he said, What do you suppose that I am? I am not he; but behold, one is coming after me, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals.

Brothers, sons of the race of Abraham and those among you who fear God, this message of salvation has been sent to us.

For those living in Jerusalem and their rulers, having ignored him and judged the voices of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them,

And finding no cause of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

And when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

But God raised him from the dead.

He appeared for many days to those who went up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now witnesses to the people.

And we proclaim to you the promise made to the fathers.

Because God has fulfilled this to our children by raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: You are my Son; today I have begotten you.

But since he raised him from the dead, no longer to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way: I will give you the faithful promises of David.

For even in another place he says, You will not allow your holy one to see corruption.

For David, having served in his own generation according to the will of God, fell asleep and was added to his ancestors and saw corruption,

But the one whom God raised did not see corruption.

Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and from all those things from which you were not able to be justified by the law of Moses.

In this, everyone who believes is justified.

Therefore, take care that what was spoken by the prophets does not come upon you.

Look, you who despise, and marvel, and be destroyed, because I work a work in your days, a work which you will by no means believe if someone tells it to you.

As they were leaving, they urged that these words be spoken to them on the next Sabbath.

After the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and opposed what was spoken by Paul, blaspheming.

Then Paul and Barnabas spoke boldly and said, It was necessary for you first to hear the word of God; since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

For the Lord has commanded us thus: I have made you a light for the nations, to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord, and all who were appointed to eternal life believed.

And the word of the Lord was spread throughout the whole region.

But the Jews incited the respectable women who worshiped and the leading men of the city, and they stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and they expelled them from their district.

But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and came to Iconium,

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
