Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,

Ephesians 4

Text size:
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
Eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
One body and one Spirit, just as you were also called in one hope of your calling.
One Lord, one faith, one baptism;
One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of the Messiah.
Therefore he says, Having ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.
But what does it mean that he ascended except that he also descended to the lower parts of the earth?
He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, in order to fill all things.
And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as shepherds and teachers,
for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of the Messiah,
until we all reach the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
So that we are no longer infants, tossed back and forth and carried about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of people, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming,
But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in all things into him who is the head, Christ,
From whom the whole body, being joined and held together by every joint of the supply, according to the working in measure of each part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
So this I say and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
Being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to the hardness of their heart,
who, having become callous, gave themselves over to sensuality to work all uncleanness with greed.
But you did not learn Christ in this way,
if indeed you heard him and were taught in him, just as the truth is in Jesus,
to put off, according to your former way of life, the old person who is being corrupted according to the desires of deceit,
and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
and to put on the new person, created according to God in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, because we are members of one another.
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
Do not give place to the devil.
The one who steals must no longer steal, but rather work, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one in need.
No rotten word should come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for building up according to need, so that it may give grace to those who hear.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness and anger and wrath and shouting and slander be removed from you along with all malice.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
