Hebrews 6 — SBL Greek New Testament

Therefore, leaving behind the word of the beginning of the Messiah, let us be carried on toward perfection, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and faith toward God,

βαπτισμῶν διδαχὴν ἐπιθέσεώς τε χειρῶν, ἀναστάσεώς τε νεκρῶν καὶ κρίματος αἰωνίου.

instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

καὶ τοῦτο ποιήσομεν ἐάνπερ ἐπιτρέπῃ ὁ θεός.

And this we will do if God permits.

Ἀδύνατον γὰρ τοὺς ἅπαξ φωτισθέντας γευσαμένους τε τῆς δωρεᾶς τῆς ἐπουρανίου καὶ μετόχους γενηθέντας πνεύματος ἁγίου

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, who have tasted the gift of the heavenly one, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

καὶ καλὸν γευσαμένους θεοῦ ῥῆμα δυνάμεις τε μέλλοντος αἰῶνος,

and having tasted the good word of God and the powers of the coming age,

καὶ παραπεσόντας, πάλιν ἀνακαινίζειν εἰς μετάνοιαν, ἀνασταυροῦντας ἑαυτοῖς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παραδειγματίζοντας.

and falling away, to renew again to repentance, crucifying for themselves the Son of God again and exposing him to public disgrace.

For the land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and produces vegetation useful for those for whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God.

ἐκφέρουσα δὲ ἀκάνθας καὶ τριβόλους ἀδόκιμος καὶ κατάρας ἐγγύς, ἧς τὸ τέλος εἰς καῦσιν.

But when it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to a curse, whose end is for burning.

Πεπείσμεθα δὲ περὶ ὑμῶν, ἀγαπητοί, τὰ κρείσσονα καὶ ἐχόμενα σωτηρίας, εἰ καὶ οὕτως λαλοῦμεν·

But we are convinced about you, beloved, of better things and things related to salvation, even if we speak in this way.

For God is not unjust to forget your work and the love you have shown toward his name, having served the saints and continuing to serve.

ἐπιθυμοῦμεν δὲ ἕκαστον ὑμῶν τὴν αὐτὴν ἐνδείκνυσθαι σπουδὴν πρὸς τὴν πληροφορίαν τῆς ἐλπίδος ἄχρι τέλους,

But we desire that each of you show the same earnestness to the full assurance of hope until the end,

ἵνα μὴ νωθροὶ γένησθε, μιμηταὶ δὲ τῶν διὰ πίστεως καὶ μακροθυμίας κληρονομούντων τὰς ἐπαγγελίας.

so that you do not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Τῷ γὰρ Ἀβραὰμ ἐπαγγειλάμενος ὁ θεός, ἐπεὶ κατ' οὐδενὸς εἶχεν μείζονος ὀμόσαι, ὤμοσεν καθ' ἑαυτοῦ,

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself,

λέγων· Εἰ μὴν εὐλογῶν εὐλογήσω σε καὶ πληθύνων πληθυνῶ σε·

saying, If indeed I do not bless you, I will bless you, and if I do not multiply, I will multiply you.

καὶ οὕτως μακροθυμήσας ἐπέτυχεν τῆς ἐπαγγελίας.

And so, after enduring patiently, he obtained the promise.

ἄνθρωποι γὰρ κατὰ τοῦ μείζονος ὀμνύουσιν, καὶ πάσης αὐτοῖς ἀντιλογίας πέρας εἰς βεβαίωσιν ὁ ὅρκος·

For people swear by the one greater, and the oath serves as the end of every dispute to confirm.

ἐν ᾧ περισσότερον βουλόμενος ὁ θεὸς ἐπιδεῖξαι τοῖς κληρονόμοις τῆς ἐπαγγελίας τὸ ἀμετάθετον τῆς βουλῆς αὐτοῦ ἐμεσίτευσεν ὅρκῳ,

In which God, wanting more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable nature of his purpose, interposed with an oath,

ἵνα διὰ δύο πραγμάτων ἀμεταθέτων, ἐν οἷς ἀδύνατον ψεύσασθαι θεόν, ἰσχυρὰν παράκλησιν ἔχωμεν οἱ καταφυγόντες κρατῆσαι τῆς προκειμένης ἐλπίδος·

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast the hope set before us.

ἣν ὡς ἄγκυραν ἔχομεν τῆς ψυχῆς, ἀσφαλῆ τε καὶ βεβαίαν καὶ εἰσερχομένην εἰς τὸ ἐσώτερον τοῦ καταπετάσματος,

Which we have as an anchor of the soul, both secure and firm, entering into the inner place behind the curtain,

ὅπου πρόδρομος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν εἰσῆλθεν Ἰησοῦς, κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ ἀρχιερεὺς γενόμενος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek forever.
