And after these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Judeans were seeking to kill him.

Now the Jewish festival of the Feast of Booths was near.

Therefore his brothers said to him, Go from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples may also see the works that you do.

For no one does anything in secret and seeks to be openly known; if you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.

For not even his brothers believed in him.

Jesus therefore said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.

You go up to the festival; I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.

After saying these things, he himself remained in Galilee.

But when his brothers went up to the festival, then he also went up, not openly but as in secret.

The Jews therefore were seeking him at the festival and were saying, Where is that one?

And there was much grumbling about him among the crowds; some were saying that he is good, but others were saying, No, he is misleading the crowd.

No one, however, spoke openly about him because of the fear of the Jews.

Now Jesus went up into the temple and was teaching while the festival was already halfway through.

Therefore the Jews were amazed, saying, How does this one know letters, not having been taught?

Jesus answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

If anyone wants to do his will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I speak from myself.

The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and there is no injustice in him.

Did not Moses give you the law? And none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?

The crowd answered, You have a demon; who is seeking to kill you?

Jesus answered and said to them, I did one work, and all of you marvel.

For this reason Moses gave you circumcision—not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers—and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

If a person receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken, why do you criticize me because I made a whole person healthy on the Sabbath?

Do not judge by appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

Therefore some from Jerusalem were saying, Is this not the one they are seeking to kill?

And look, he speaks openly, and no one says anything to him. Could it be that the rulers truly have recognized that this is the Christ?

But we know where this one is from; the Messiah, however, when he comes, no one knows where he is from.

Jesus therefore, teaching in the temple, cried out and said, You know me and you know where I am from; and I have not come from myself, but the one who sent me is true, whom you do not know.

I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.

They were seeking to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him because his hour had not yet come.

And from the crowd many believed in him and were saying, The Messiah, when he comes, will he do more signs than this one has done?

The Pharisees heard the crowd grumbling about him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

Jesus therefore said, I am with you for a little longer, and then I am going to the one who sent me.

You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am, you are not able to come.

Therefore the Jews said to themselves, Where is this one about to go so that we will not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

What is this word that he said: You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am, you are not able to come?

Now on the last day, the great day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried out, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

The one believing in me, as the Scripture said, rivers of living water will flow from his belly.

Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Therefore, from the crowd, having heard these words, they were saying, This is truly the prophet.

Others were saying, This is the Messiah; but some were saying, Surely the Messiah does not come from Galilee?

Did not the Scripture say that the Messiah comes from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

A division therefore occurred in the crowd because of him.

Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid hands on him.

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why did you not bring him?

The officers answered, No man ever spoke like this man.

Then the Pharisees answered them, Are you also deceived?

Did anyone from the rulers believe in him or from the Pharisees?

But this crowd, which does not know the law, is accursed.

Nicodemus, who had come to him before and was one of them, said to them,

Does not our law judge a person only if it first hears from him and knows what he is doing?

They answered and said to him, Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.
