Truly, truly I say to you, the one who does not enter through the door into the sheepfold but climbs up another way, that one is a thief and a robber.

But the one entering through the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

To him the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep listen to his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.

But they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.

Jesus said this parable to them, but they did not understand what he was telling them.

So Jesus said to them again, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.

I am the door; if anyone enters through me, he will be saved and will go in and go out and find pasture.

The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy; I came so that they may have life and may have it abundantly.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

The hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees—and the wolf seizes them and scatters them—

Because he is a hired man and does not care for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me,

Just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father, so I lay down my soul for the sheep.

And I have other sheep that are not from this fold; those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my soul, in order to take it again.

No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.

A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words.

Many of them were saying, He has a demon and is mad; why do you listen to him?

Others were saying, These words are not from one who is demon-possessed; can a demon open the eyes of the blind?

Then the dedication took place in Jerusalem; it was winter,

And Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.

So the Jews surrounded him and said to him, How long will you keep our soul? If you are the Messiah, tell us openly.

Jesus answered them, I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in the name of my Father testify about me.

But you do not believe because you are not from my sheep.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me,

And I give to them eternal life, and they will never perish into the age, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the hand of the Father.

I and the Father are one.

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Jesus answered them, I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which one of these works do you stone me?

The Jews answered him, We do not stone you for a good work but for blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God.

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods?

If he called those gods to whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken,

whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, you say, Blasphemer, because I said, I am the Son of God?

If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me.

But if I do them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.

They were seeking again to seize him, and he went out from their hand.

And he went again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and he remained there.

And many came to him and said that John did no sign, but everything John said about this was true.

And many believed in him there.
