In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, he called the disciples to him and said to them,

I have compassion for the crowd because they have been with me for three days already and they have nothing to eat.

And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a long distance.

And his disciples answered him, Where can anyone find enough bread here in the wilderness to satisfy them?

And he asked them, How many loaves do you have? They said, Seven.

And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And taking the seven loaves, having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and they set them before the crowd.

And they had a few small fish; and having blessed them, he said to have these also set before them.

And they ate and were satisfied, and they picked up seven baskets full of broken pieces.

There were about four thousand. And he sent them away.

And immediately, boarding the boat with his disciples, he went to the region of Dalmanutha.

And the Pharisees went out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, testing him.

And sighing in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.

And leaving them again, he went away to the other side.

And they forgot to take bread, and they did not have with them more than one bread in the boat.

And he warned them, saying, Watch out, beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.

And they were reasoning with one another because they did not have bread.

And knowing, he says to them, Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Do you have a hardened heart?

Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? They say to him, Twelve.

When you also fed the seven with the four thousand, how many baskets of broken pieces did you gather? And they say to him, Seven.

And he said to them, Do you still not understand?

And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man and beg him to touch him.

And taking hold of the blind man’s hand, he led him outside the village, and spitting into his eyes, laying his hands on him, he asked him, What do you see?

And looking up, he said, I see people, for I see them walking like trees.

Then again he laid his hands on his eyes, and he looked intently, was restored, and saw everything clearly.

And he sent him home, saying, Do not enter the village.

And Jesus went out and his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do people say that I am?

And they said to him, saying that John the Baptist, and others Elijah, and others that one of the prophets.

And he asked them, But who do you say that I am? Peter answered him, You are the Christ.

And he strictly charged them not to tell anyone about him.

And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and after three days rise again.

And he spoke the word openly. And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him.

But turning around and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, Go behind me, Satan, because you do not think about the things of God but the things of humans.

And calling the crowd together with his disciples, he said to them, If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever wants to save their soul will lose it, but whoever loses their soul for my sake and the gospel will save it.

For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world and to lose his soul?

For what will a person give in exchange for their soul?

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
