And from there, having risen, he comes to the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds again accompany him, and as he was accustomed, he again taught them.

And they were asking him if it is lawful for a man to divorce a wife, testing him.

But he answered them, What did Moses command you?

But they said, Moses permitted to write a certificate of divorce and to send away.

But Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.

But from the beginning of creation, he made them male and female.

Because of this a man will leave his father and his mother and will be joined to his wife,

and the two will be one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.

Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.

And in the house again the disciples were asking him about this.

And he says to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her,

And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

And they were bringing children to him so that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.

But Jesus, seeing it, was indignant and said to them, Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for of such is the kingdom of God.

Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.

And embracing them, he blessed them, laying his hands on them.

And as he was going out on the road, one ran up, and kneeling, asked him, Teacher, good one, what must I do to inherit eternal life?

Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good except one, God.

You know the commandments: Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.

He said to him, Teacher, I have kept all these from my youth.

But Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, One thing you lack: go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, and come, follow me.

But he, having become sad at the word, went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

And Jesus, looking around, said to his disciples, How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God.

But the disciples were amazed at his words. And Jesus, answering again, said to them, Children, how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God.

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.

And they were greatly astonished, saying to themselves, Who then can be saved?

Looking at them, Jesus says, It is impossible for humans, but not for God; for all things are possible with God.

Peter began to say to him, Look, we have left everything and followed you.

Jesus said, Truly I say to you, no one is who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields because of me and because of the gospel,

If someone does not receive a hundredfold now in this age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.

But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.

They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going ahead of them, and those who followed were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was about to happen to him.

Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the nations.

And they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him, and after three days he will rise.

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him, saying, Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.

He said to them, What do you want me to do for you?

They said to him, Give us that we may sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your glory.

But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?

They said to him, We are able. And Jesus said to them, You will drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized,

But to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to give, but for those for whom it has been prepared.

And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant about James and John.

And Jesus called them to himself and said to them, You know that those who are considered rulers of the nations dominate them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

It is not so among you; but whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

And whoever wants to be first among you must be servant of all.

For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.

And they come to Jericho. And as he was going out from Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside.

And hearing that Jesus of Nazareth is, he began to cry out and say, Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me.

And many rebuked him so that he would be silent; but he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.

And Jesus stopped and said, Call him. And they called the blind man, saying to him, Take courage, get up, he is calling you.

But he, having thrown off his garment, jumped up and came to Jesus.

And Jesus answered him, You want me to do what for you? The blind man said to him, Rabbi, so that I may see again.

And Jesus said to him, Go, your faith has saved you. And immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
