And he began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard, and he put a fence around it and dug a winepress and built a tower, and he leased it to farmers, and he went away.

And he sent to the farmers at the proper time a servant, so that he might receive from the farmers some of the fruits of the vineyard.

And taking him, they beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

And again he sent to them another servant, and they killed him and treated him shamefully.

And he sent another; and they killed him, and many others, some beating and some killing.

He had still one other, a beloved son; he sent him last to them, saying, They will respect my son.

But those farmers said to one another, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.

And they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others.

Have you not read this scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the head of the corner?

This came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

And they sought to seize him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them. And leaving him, they went away.

And they send to him some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to catch him in a word.

And they came and said to him, Teacher, we know that you are true and that you do not care about anyone, for you do not look at the face of people, but you teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to give tax to Caesar or not? Should we give or should we not give?

But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius so that I may see it.

They brought it. And he said to them, Whose image is this and the inscription? They said to him, Caesar’s.

But Jesus said to them, Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. And they marveled at him.

And Sadducees come to him, those who say there is no resurrection, and they ask him, saying,

Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife without children, his brother should take the wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and dying, he left no offspring.

And the second took her and died, not leaving offspring, and the third likewise.

And the seven did not leave offspring; last of all, the woman died.

In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.

Jesus said to them, Are you not mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?

For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in the heavens.

But concerning the dead, that they are raised, did you not read in the book of Moses, at the bush, how God said to him, I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?

God is not a God of the dead but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.

And one of the scribes, having come near and heard them disputing, seeing that he answered them well, asked him, Which commandment is first of all?

Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

And you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

The second is this: You will love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

And the scribe said to him, Well said, teacher, truly you have spoken that one is, and there is no other besides him.

And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love the neighbor as oneself is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.

And Jesus, seeing that he answered wisely, said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

And Jesus answered, teaching in the temple, How do the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David?

David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.

David himself calls him Lord, and how is he then his son? And the large crowd listened to him gladly.

And in his teaching he said: Beware of the scribes who desire to walk around in robes and greetings in the marketplaces

and the places of honor in the synagogues and the first seats at banquets,

Those who devour the houses of widows and for a pretense make long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation.

And sitting opposite the treasury, he observed how the crowd was putting copper into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in much.

And a poor widow came and put in two small coins, which is a quadrans.

And calling his disciples to him, he said to them, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who are throwing into the treasury.

For all of them threw in from their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, threw in everything she had, all her life.
