But he revealed his word at the proper time in a proclamation, which I was entrusted with according to the command of our Savior God,

To Titus, a genuine child according to the common faith: grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

For this reason I left you in Crete, so that you might put in order what remains and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you.

If anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children who are not accused of debauchery or rebellion.

For the overseer must be blameless as a steward of God, not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not greedy for gain,

but hospitable, loving what is good, self-controlled, just, holy, disciplined,

holding firmly to the trustworthy word according to the teaching, so that he may be able both to encourage with sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

For there are many who are rebellious, empty talkers, and deceivers, especially those from the circumcision,

Whom it is necessary to silence, who overturn whole households teaching things they should not for the sake of shameful gain.

One of them, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.

This testimony is true. For this reason, rebuke them sharply, so that they may be healthy in the faith,

Not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of people who turn away from the truth.

To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

They profess to know God, but by their works they deny him, being detestable, disobedient, and rejected for every good work.
