Both yesterday and the third day, while Saul was king, you were the one bringing out and bringing in Israel, and the Lord your God said to you, You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall be for a leader over Israel
And all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and the king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David as king over Israel according to the word of the Lord through the hand of Samuel.
And the king and the men of Israel went to Jerusalem, this is Jebus, and there the Jebusites were, the ones dwelling the land.
And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, You shall not come in here. And he captured the district of Zion; this is the city of David.
And David said, Whoever strikes the Jebusite first will be for a ruler and for a commander; and Joab son of Zeruiah went up against it first, and he became a ruler
And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore he called it the city of David.
And he built the city round about, and he fought and took the city
And David was going and growing greater, and the Lord Almighty was with him.
And these were the chiefs of the mighty men who were for David, the prevailing ones with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king according to the word of the Lord over Israel.
And this was the number of the mighty men of David: Jesebaal son of Achamani, chief of the thirty; this one drew out his sword once against three hundred wounded men at one time.
And after him Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite; this one was among the three mighty men
This man was with David at Pasodomin, and the foreigners were gathered there for war, and there was a part of the field full of barley, and the people fled from before the foreigners.
And he stood in the midst of the portion and delivered it, and struck the Philistines, and the Lord brought about a great salvation
And three of the thirty rulers went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Odollam, and the camp of the Philistines had encamped in the valley of the giants.
And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem
And David longed and said, Who will give me water to drink from the cistern of Bethlehem, which is by the gate?
And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the cistern that was in Bethlehem, which was by the gate, and they took it and came to David, and David was not willing to drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.
And he said, Far be it from me before God to do this thing; shall I drink the blood of these men in their lives? because with their lives they brought it, and he was not willing to drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
And Abessa, Joab’s brother, this one was chief of the three; this one drew out his sword against three hundred wounded men at one time, and this one was renowned among the three.
Of the three he was more renowned than the two, and he was to them for a ruler; but he did not come up to the three.
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a mighty man of many deeds, of Kabasael, he struck the two Ariel of Moab, and he went down and struck the lion in the pit on a day of snow.
And this one struck the Egyptian man, a man of sight, five cubits, and in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear like a weaver’s beam, and Benaiah went down against him with a staff and took the spear from the hand of the Egyptian and killed him with his own spear
These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did, and to him was a name among the three mighty men.
More honorable than the thirty was this man, and he did not come to the three, and David appointed him over his family.
