And it came to pass after many days, and a word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, and show yourself to Ahab, and I will give rain upon the face of the land.

And Elijah went to appear to Ahab, and the famine was severe in Samaria.

And Ahab called Obadiah, the steward; and Obadiah was greatly fearing the Lord.

And it happened, when Jezebel was striking the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took a hundred men of the prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave, and kept them with bread and water

And Ahab said to Abdias, Come, and let us go through the land to the springs of the waters and to the torrents, if perhaps we may find grass, and let us preserve horses and mules, and the beasts shall not be destroyed.

And they divided the road among themselves to pass through it; Ahab went on one road alone, and Obadiah went on another road alone.

And as Abdio was on the way alone, behold, Elijah came to meet him alone. And Abdio hastened and fell on his face and said, Are you yourself, my lord Elijah?

And Elijah said to him, I am; go, say to your lord, Behold, Elijah.

And Obadiah said, What have I sinned, that you are giving your servant into the hand of Ahab to put me to death?

As the Lord your God lives, if there is a nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you, and they said, He is not there, and he has burned the kingdom and its regions because he has not found you.

And now you say, Go, report to your lord: behold, Elijah.

And it shall be that if I go away from you and the spirit of the Lord will carry you to a land which I do not know, and I shall go in to report to Ahab, and he will kill me; and your servant has feared the Lord from his youth.

Was it not reported to you, my lord, what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, and I hid one hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, fifty by fifty, in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

And now you say to me, Go, say to your lord, Behold, Elijah, and he will kill me.

And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, that today I shall appear to him.

And Abdio went to meet Ahab and reported to him, and Ahab ran out and went to meet Heliu.

And it happened, as Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to Elijah, Are you yourself the one who is troubling Israel?

And Elijah said, I do not pervert Israel, but rather you and the house of your father, in your forsaking the Lord your God and in your walking after the Baals.

And now send, gather together to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the four hundred and fifty prophets of shame, and the four hundred prophets of the groves, eating at Jezebel’s table.

And Ahab sent into all Israel and gathered together all the prophets to Mount Carmel

And Eliu drew near to all, and Eliu said to them, How long will you limp on both knees? If the Lord is God, go after him; but if Baal is he, go after him. And the people did not answer a word.

And Eliu said to the people, I alone remain a prophet of the Lord, and the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men, and the prophets of the grove are four hundred.

Let them give us two bulls, and let them choose for themselves the one, and let them cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but let them not put fire on; and I will prepare the other bull, and I will not at all put fire on it.

and call aloud in the name of your gods, and I will call upon the name of the Lord my God, and the God who will answer by fire, he is God. And all the people answered and said, The word that you have spoken is good.

And Eliu said to the prophets of shame: Choose for yourselves the one bullock, and do first, because you are many, and call on the name of your god, and do not put fire under it.

And they took the bull calf and made it, and they called on the name of Baal from morning until noon and said, Hear us, O Baal; hear us. And there was no voice and there was no hearing. And they ran around on the altar that they had made.

And it came to be at noon, and Eliu the Tishbite mocked them and said, Call on with a loud voice, because he is a god, because he is occupied in talk, or perhaps he is busy, or perhaps he is sleeping, and he will rise up.

And they were calling aloud with a loud voice and were cutting themselves according to their custom with swords and lances until the pouring out of blood upon them

And they prophesied until the evening passed, and it came to be, as the time for the offering of the sacrifice, and there was no voice. And Eliu the Tishbite spoke to the prophets of the abominations, saying, Stand aside from now, and I will make my burnt offering. And they stood aside and went away.

And Eliu said to the people, Bring near to me; and all the people brought near to him.

And Eliu took twelve stones according to the number of the tribes of Israel, as the Lord spoke to him, saying, Israel shall be your name.

And he built the stones in the name of the Lord, and he repaired the ruined altar, and he made a trench holding two measures of seed around the altar.

And he piled the sticks on the altar that he had made, and he cut up the whole burnt offering and put it on the sticks, and he piled it on the altar

And he said, Take for me four jars of water and pour it on the whole burnt offering and on the pieces of wood, and they did so. And he said, Do it a second time, and they did it a second time. And he said, Do it a third time, and they did it a third time.

And the water went around the altar, and they filled the trench with water.

And Eliu cried out to heaven and said, O Lord, the God of Abraam and Isaac and Israel, hear me, O Lord, hear me today in fire, and let all this people know that you are the Lord, the God of Israel, and I your servant have done these works because of you.

Answer me, O Lord, answer me by fire, and let this people know that you are the Lord God, and you have turned the heart of this people back.

And fire fell from the Lord out of heaven and consumed the whole burnt offering and the pieces of wood and the water that was in the trench and the stones and the dust, and the fire licked up.

And all the people fell on their faces and said, Truly the Lord, he is God; this same one is God.

And Eliou said to the people, Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they seized them, and Eliou brought them down to the wadi Kishon, and he slaughtered them there.

And Eliu said to Achaab, Go up and eat and drink, for there is the sound of the feet of the rain.

And Ahab went up to eat and to drink, and Elijah went up to Carmel and bowed down to the ground and put his face between his knees.

And he said to his little servant, Go up and look toward the way of the sea. And the little servant looked and said, There is nothing. And Elijah said, Go back seven times. And the little servant went back seven times.

And it came to pass in the seventh time, and behold, a small cloud like a man’s footprint, bringing up water. And he said, Go up and say to Achaab, Harness your chariot and go down, lest the rain overtake you.

And it came to pass, meanwhile here and there, and the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain, and Ahab was weeping and going to Jezreel

And the hand of the Lord was upon Eliu, and he girded up his loins and ran before Achaab as far as Jezrael
