And Samuel said to Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint you as king over Israel; and now hear the voice of the Lord.

Thus said the Lord of Hosts: Now I will punish what Amalek did to Israel, how he met him on the way when he was going up out of Egypt.

And now go and strike Amalek and Ierim and all that is his, and you shall not spare from him, and you shall utterly destroy him and devote him to destruction and all that is his, and you shall not spare from him, and you shall kill from man to woman, and from infant to one nursing, and from calf to sheep, and from camel to donkey

And Saul summoned the people and reviewed them at Gilgal, four hundred thousand companies, and Judah, thirty thousand companies.

And Saul came as far as the cities of Amalek, and lay in wait in the wadi.

And Saul said to the Kenite, Go away and turn aside out of the midst of Amalek, lest I add you with him; and you did mercy with the sons of Israel in their going up out of Egypt. And the Kenite turned aside out of the midst of Amalek.

And Saul struck Amalek from Havilah as far as Shur, which is before Egypt.

And he captured Agag the king of Amalek alive, and all the people of Jerim he killed with the edge of the sword.

And Saul and all the people spared Agag alive and the good things of the flocks and of the herds and of the provisions and of the vineyards and of all the good things, and they were not willing to utterly destroy them; but every despised and worthless thing they utterly destroyed.

And the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying,

I have regretted that I made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not kept my words. And Samuel grieved, and he cried out to the Lord all the night.

And Samuel rose early and went to meet Israel in the morning, and it was reported to Samuel, saying, Saul has come to Carmel, and he has set up a hand for himself, and he turned the chariot and went down to Gilgal to Saul. And behold, he himself was offering up a whole burnt offering to the Lord, the first of the spoils which he had brought from Amalek.

And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, Blessed are you to the Lord; I have established all that the Lord has spoken.

And Samuel said, Then what is this sound of this flock in my ears, and the sound of the oxen which I hear?

And Saul said, From Amalek I have brought them, which the people spared, the best of the flock and of the cattle, so that they might be sacrificed to the Lord your God; and the rest I destroyed utterly.

And Samuel said to Saul, Permit it, and I will report to you what the Lord spoke to me in the night. And he said to him, Speak.

And Samuel said to Saul, Were you not small in his own sight, leading the scepter of the tribe of Israel? And the Lord anointed you as king over Israel.

And the Lord sent you on a way and said to you, Go and utterly destroy the sinners against me, Amalek, and you shall wage war against them until you finish them.

And why did you not listen to the voice of the Lord, but rushed upon the spoil and did the evil before the Lord?

And Saul said to Samuel: I heard the voice of the people, and I went in the way in which the Lord sent me, and I brought Agag the king of Amalek, and Amalek I destroyed utterly.

And the people took from the spoil sheep and oxen, the first of the devoted thing, to sacrifice before the Lord our God in Gilgal.

And Samuel said, Is it willful to the Lord, burnt offerings and sacrifices, as to hear the voice of the Lord? Behold, hearing is better than sacrifice, and listening is better than the fat of rams.

For sin is divination, and pains bring on therapy; because you have set at nothing the word of the Lord, and the Lord will set you at nothing, that you should not be king over Israel.

And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, because I transgressed the word of the Lord and your word, because I feared the people and listened to their voice.

And now, please take away my sin and return with me, and I will worship the Lord your God.

And Samuel said to Saul, I will not turn back with you, because you have despised the word of the Lord, and the Lord will despise you so that you will not be king over Israel.

And Samuel turned his face to go away, and Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and he tore it.

And Samuel said to him, The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from your hand today, and will give it to your neighbor, the one better than you.

And Israel shall be divided into two, and he will not turn back nor repent, for he is not as a man to repent, he himself.

And Saul said, I have sinned; but please honor me before the elders of Israel and before my people, and return with me, and I will worship the Lord your God.

And Samuel returned after Saul, and he worshiped the Lord.

And Samuel said, Bring to me Agag the king of Amalek. And Agag came to him trembling, and Agag said, Is death thus bitter?

And Samuel said to Agag: As your sword has made women childless, so your mother shall be made childless among women. And Samuel slaughtered Agag before the Lord in Gilgal.

And Samuel went away to Armathaim, and Saul went up to his house in Gabaa.

And Samuel did not add to see Saul any more until the day of his death, because Samuel was mourning over Saul; and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel
