And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his son, the youngest, king in his place, because the band that had come upon them, the Arabs and the Alimazones, had killed all the older sons; and Ahaziah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned.

Ahaziah was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Athaliah, daughter of Omri.

And he also walked in the way of the house of Ahab, because his mother was his counselor to sin.

And he did what was evil before the Lord like the house of Ahab, for they were to him after his father died counselors for destroying him.

And in their counsels he went, and he went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramah Gilead, and the archers struck Joram.

And Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel from the wounds with which the Syrians had struck him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria; and Ahaziah son of Joram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

And it was from God for the destruction of Ahaziah to come to Jehoram; and in his coming Jehoram went out with him toward Jehu son of Nimshi, the anointed of the Lord, the house of Ahab.

And it came to pass, when Jehu executed judgment on the house of Ahab, that he found the rulers of Judah and the brothers of Ahaziah ministering to Ahaziah, and he killed them.

And he said to seek Ahaziah, and they found him healing himself in Samaria, and they brought him to Jehu, and he killed him, and they buried him, because they said, He is a son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. And there was not in the house of Ahaziah strength to prevail concerning the kingdom.

And Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son had died, and she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom in the house of Judah.

And Jehosheba, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the sons of the king who were being put to death, and she put him and his nurse into the storehouse of the beds, and Jehosheba, daughter of the king Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid him from the face of Athaliah, and she did not kill him.

And he was with her in the house of God, hidden for six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.
