Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem.

And he did the right thing before the Lord, but not with a complete heart.

And it happened, when the kingdom was established in his hand, that he put to death his servants who had killed the king his father.

And their sons he did not put to death, according to the covenant of the law of the Lord, as it has been written, as the Lord commanded, saying, Fathers shall not die for children, and sons shall not die for fathers, but each shall die for his own sin.

And Amasias gathered the house of Judah and set them by their fathers’ houses, by thousands and by hundreds throughout all Judah and Jerusalem, and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand mighty men, able to go out to war, holding spear and shield.

And he hired from Israel a hundred thousand mighty in strength for a hundred talents of silver

And a man of God came to him, saying, O king, the force of Israel will not go with you, because the Lord is not with Israel, with all the sons of Ephraim.

for if you suppose that by these you will prevail, and the Lord will make you turn before the face of the enemies, because it is from the Lord both to have strength and to make turn away

And Amaziah said to the man of God, And what shall I do with the hundred talents that I gave to the force of Israel? And the man of God said, It is for the Lord to give you more than these.

And Amaziah separated the force that had come to him from Ephraim to go to their place, and they were very angry against Judah, and they returned to their place in wrath of anger.

And Amaziah strengthened himself and took his people and went to the valley of Salt and struck there the sons of Seir, ten thousand.

And the sons of Judah took ten thousand alive, and they brought them to the top of the cliff, and they were throwing them down from the top of the cliff, and all were dashed apart.

And the sons of the force whom Amasias turned back so as not to go with him to war, they attacked the cities of Judah from Samaria as far as Beth-horon, and struck down among them three thousand, and plundered much spoil.

And it happened after Amasiah had come from striking the Idumea, that he brought the gods of the sons of Seir and set them up for himself as gods, and before them he was worshiping, and to them he himself was sacrificing

And the anger of the Lord came upon Amasiah, and he sent prophets to him, and they said to him, Why did you seek the gods of the people, who did not deliver their people out of your hand?

And it happened, when he spoke to him, that he said to him, Have I made you counselor of the king? Take heed, lest you be flogged. And the prophet was silent and said, I know that God has purposed to destroy you, because you did this and did not listen to my counsel.

And Amaziah took counsel and sent to Joash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another face to face.

And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The achouch that in Lebanon sent to the cedar that in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and behold, the wild beasts of the field that are in Lebanon will come, and the wild beasts came and trampled the achouch.

You said, Behold, you have struck Idumea, and your heavy heart lifts you up; now sit in your house, and why do you contend in evil, that you should fall, you and Judah with you?

And Amaziah did not listen, because it had come from the Lord to give him into hands, because he had sought the gods of the Idumeans.

And Joash king of Israel went up, and they saw one another, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-shemesh, which is of Judah.

And Judah was defeated before Israel, and each man fled to his tent.

And Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, Joash king of Israel captured at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem, and he tore down from the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate four hundred cubits

and all the gold and the silver and all the vessels found in the house of the Lord and with Abdedom and the treasures of the king’s house and the sons of the alliances, and he returned to Samaria

And Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived after Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, died fifteen years.

And the rest of the words of Amasias, the first and the last, are they not behold, written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

And in the time when Amasias turned away from the Lord, they conspired against him with a conspiracy, and he fled from Jerusalem to Lachish, and they sent after him to Lachish, and they put him to death there

and they carried him on the horses and buried him with his fathers in the city of David
