On that day it was read aloud in the book of Moses in the ears of the people, and it was found written in it that the Ammonites and Moabites should not enter into the assembly of God forever.

For they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and they hired Balaam against him to curse, and our God turned the curse into a blessing.

And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that every mixed one in Israel was separated.

And before this, Eliasib the priest, dwelling in the storeroom of the house of our God, near Tobiah's chambers

And he made for him a large treasury, and there they had formerly been giving the manna and the frankincense and the vessels and the tithe of the grain and of the wine and of the oil, by command of the Levites and of the singers and of the gatekeepers, and the firstfruits of the priests

And in all this I was not in Jerusalem, because in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I came to the king, and after the end of days I asked from the king

And I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the wickedness that Elishub had done for Tobiah, to make for him a treasury in the court of the house of God.

And it seemed very evil to me, and I threw all the vessels of the house of Tobiah outside from the treasury

And I said, and they purified the treasuries, and I returned there vessels of the house of God, the manna and the frankincense.

And I knew that portions of the Levites had not been given, and the Levites and the singers, each man fled to his field, doing the work.

And I contended with the commanders and said, Why has the house of God been forsaken? And I gathered them and set them in their place.

And all Judah brought the tithe of the grain and of the wine and of the oil into the treasuries

by the hand of Selemia the priest and Zadduk the scribe and Phadaia of the Levites, and by their hand Anan son of Zakkhur son of Mathania, because they were considered faithful over them to distribute to their brothers

Remember me, O God, in this, and let not my mercy be blotted out that I did in the house of the Lord God.

In those days I saw in Judah treading winepresses on the sabbath and bringing sheaves and loading them onto the donkeys and wine and grape and figs and every burden and bringing into Jerusalem on the day of the sabbath; and I warned them on the day of their sale

and they sat in it bringing fish and selling every kind of merchandise on the sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem

And I contended with the sons of Judah, the free men, and I said to them, What is this evil thing that you are doing, and profaning the day of the sabbath?

Did not your fathers do thus, and our God brought upon them and upon us all these evils, and upon this city? And you are adding wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath.

And it happened when the gates of Jerusalem were being set up before the sabbath, that I said, and they shut the gates, and I said that they should not be opened until after the sabbath; and from my young men I stationed at the gates so as not to bear burdens on the sabbath day.

And they all lodged, and they did selling outside Jerusalem once and twice.

And I testified among them and said to them, Why do you lodge opposite the wall? If you repeat it, I will stretch out my hand against you; from that time they did not come on the sabbath.

And I said to the Levites who were being purified and coming to guard the gates, to sanctify the day of the sabbath: in respect to these things, remember me, O God, and spare me according to the abundance of your mercy.

And in those days I saw the Jews who had seated Asdodite, Ammonite, Moabite women.

And their sons were speaking half in the language of Ashdod, and are not knowing how to speak in Judean.

and I contended with them and cursed them and struck men among them and pulled out their hair and made them swear by God, if you give your daughters to their sons and if you take from their daughters for your sons

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? And among many nations there was no king like him, and he was beloved by God, and God gave him as king over all Israel; and foreign women led him astray.

and we will not listen to you to do all this wickedness, to break covenant with our God, to take foreign women as wives

And from the sons of Joiada, son of Eliashib, the great priest, a son-in-law of Sanballat the Horonite, I drove him away from me.

Remember for them, O God, concerning the kinship of the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood, and the Levites

And I purified them from every foreign alliance, and I established the divisions for the priests and for the Levites, each man according to his work

And the gift of the wood-bearers at appointed times, from year to year, and at the firstfruits, remember me, our God, for good.
