2 Kings 3 — Rahlfs Septuagint

Ιωραμ υἱὸς Αχααβ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ισραηλ ἐν ἔτει ὀκτωκαιδεκάτῳ Ιωσαφατ βασιλεῖ Ιουδα καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν δώδεκα ἔτη

And Joram son of Ahab reigned in Israel in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned twelve years.

And he did the evil in the eyes of the Lord, except not as his father and not as his mother; and he removed the pillars of Baal, which his father had made.

ἐν τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ Ιεροβοαμ υἱοῦ Ναβατ ὃς ἐξήμαρτεν τὸν Ισραηλ ἐκολλήθη οὐκ ἀπέστη ἀπ᾿ αὐτῆς

Nevertheless, in the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, he clung to it; he did not depart from it

And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master, and he used to turn over to the king of Israel in the revolt one hundred thousand lambs and one hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

ἐγένετο μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν Αχααβ καὶ ἠθέτησεν βασιλεὺς Μωαβ ἐν βασιλεῖ Ισραηλ

And it came to pass after Ahab died, that the king of Moab revolted against the king of Israel.

ἐξῆλθεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ιωραμ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐκ Σαμαρείας καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο τὸν Ισραηλ

And King Joram went out on that day from Samaria and mustered Israel

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has revolted against me; will you go with me to Moab to war? And he said, I will go up; I am like you, my people like your people, my horses like your horses.

εἶπεν ποίᾳ ὁδῷ ἀναβῶ καὶ εἶπεν ὁδὸν ἔρημον Εδωμ

And he said, By which way shall I go up? And he said, By the wilderness road of Edom.

9

And the king of Israel went and the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they went around a way of seven days, and there was no water for the camp and for the cattle that were under their feet

εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ισραηλ ὦ ὅτι κέκληκεν κύριος τοὺς τρεῖς βασιλεῖς παρερχομένους δοῦναι αὐτοὺς ἐν χειρὶ Μωαβ

And the king of Israel said, Ah, that the Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.

And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, and let us seek the Lord by him? And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, Here is Elisha son of Shaphat, who poured water on Elijah’s hands.

εἶπεν Ιωσαφατ ἔστιν αὐτῷ ῥῆμα κυρίου καὶ κατέβη πρὸς αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς Ισραηλ καὶ Ιωσαφατ βασιλεὺς Ιουδα καὶ βασιλεὺς Εδωμ

And Jehoshaphat said, There is with him a word of the Lord. And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah and the king of Edom went down to him.

And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What is there between me and you? Go to the prophets of your father. And the king of Israel said to him, Not that the Lord has called the three kings to give them into the hand of Moab?

14

And Elisha said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely if I did not regard the face of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not have looked toward you or seen you.

15

νυνὶ δὲ λαβέ μοι ψάλλοντα καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἔψαλλεν ὁ ψάλλων καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν χεὶρ κυρίου

And now, bring me a minstrel. And it happened, as the minstrel was playing, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.

εἶπεν τάδε λέγει κύριος ποιήσατε τὸν χειμάρρουν τοῦτον βοθύνους βοθύνους

And he said, Thus says the Lord: Make this wadi pits, pits.

17

For thus says the Lord: you shall not see wind, and you shall not see rain, and this wadi shall be filled with water, and you shall drink, you and your possessions and your livestock.

18

κούφη αὕτη ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς κυρίου καὶ παραδώσω τὴν Μωαβ ἐν χειρὶ ὑμῶν

And this is light in the eyes of the Lord, and I will give Moab into your hand.

19

and you shall strike every fortified city and every good tree you shall throw down, and all springs of water you shall stop up, and every good plot you shall make useless with stones

ἐγένετο τὸ πρωὶ ἀναβαινούσης τῆς θυσίας καὶ ἰδοὺ ὕδατα ἤρχοντο ἐξ ὁδοῦ Εδωμ καὶ ἐπλήσθη ἡ γῆ ὕδατος

And it came to pass in the morning, at the time of the offering ascending, and behold, waters were coming from the way of Edom, and the land was filled with water

And all Moab heard that the kings had gone up to fight against them, and they shouted, from every one girded with a belt and upward, and they stood at the border.

22

And they rose early in the morning, and the sun rose upon the waters, and Moab saw the waters opposite, red like blood.

23

And they said, This is blood; the kings have fought with the sword and have struck each man his neighbor; and now, to the spoil of Moab!

24

And they entered into the camp of Israel, and Israel rose up and struck Moab, and they fled from before them, and they entered, going in and striking Moab

25

And they tore down the cities and threw every good piece of land, each man a stone, and filled it, and they stopped up every spring of water and cut down every good tree, until only the stones of the wall were left in ruins, and the slingers went around and struck it.

26

And the king of Moab saw that the war was too strong for him, and he took with himself seven hundred men drawn sword to break through to the king of Edom, but they were not able.

27

And he took his son, his firstborn, who reigned in his place, and offered him up as a whole burnt offering on the wall, and there was great wrath against Israel, and they departed from him and returned to the land
