And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place in which we dwell before you is too small for us.

Let us go now as far as the Jordan, and let us take from there each one a beam, and let us make for ourselves there a place to dwell there. And he said, Come.

And one said, Be pleased, come with your servants. And he said, I will go.

And he went with them, and they came to the Jordan, and they were cutting the wood.

And behold, one was throwing down the beam, and the iron fell into the water, and he cried out, O lord, and it was borrowed too

And the man of God said, Where did it fall? And he showed him the place. And he cut off a piece of wood and threw it there, and the iron floated up.

And he said, Lift it up for yourself, and he stretched out his hand and took it.

And the king of Syria was making war against Israel, and he took counsel with his servants, saying, Into this place and that place I will encamp.

And Elisha sent to the king of Israel, saying, Guard yourself not to pass by in that place, because there Syria has been hidden.

And the king of Israel sent to the place which Elisha had said to him, and he guarded himself there, not once nor twice.

And the soul of the king of Syria was troubled because of this matter, and he called his servants and said to them, Will you not tell me who is betraying me to the king of Israel?

And one of his servants said, No, my lord king, but Elisha the prophet who is in Israel declares to the king of Israel all the words that you speak in your inner bedroom chamber.

And he said, Come, see where this one is, and I will send and take him; and they reported to him, saying, Behold, in Dothaim.

And he sent there horse and chariot and a heavy force, and they came by night and encircled the city

And the attendant of Elisha rose early to get up and went out, and behold, force encircling the city, and horse and chariot; and the little servant said to him, O lord, how shall we do?

And Elisha said, Do not fear, for those with us are more in number than those with them.

And Elisha prayed and said, O Lord, open the eyes of the young man, and let him see. And the Lord opened his eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and a chariot of fire all around Elisha.

And they came down to him, and Elisha prayed to the Lord and said, Strike this nation, I pray, with blindness; and he struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

And Elisha said to them, This is not the city, and this is not the way; come after me, and I will lead you to the man whom you seek. And he led them away to Samaria.

And it happened, when they entered into Samaria, that Elisha said, Open now, O Lord, their eyes, and let them see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

And the king of Israel said, when he saw them, Shall I indeed strike, shall I strike, my father?

And he said, You shall not strike whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow; you strike. Set bread and water before them, and let them eat and let them drink and let them go to their lord.

And he set before them a great banquet, and they ate and drank, and he sent them away, and they went to their lord; and the raiding bands of Syria did not continue any more to come into the land of Israel.

And it came to pass after these things that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his camp, and he went up and besieged Samaria.

And there was a great famine in Samaria, and behold, they besieged it until a donkey’s head was for fifty shekels of silver, and a fourth of the cab of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver.

And the king of Israel was passing along upon the wall, and a woman cried out to him, saying, Save, my lord king.

And he said to her, Let not the Lord save you; from where shall I save you? From the threshing floor, or from the winepress?

And the king said to her, What is it to you? And the woman said, This woman said to me, Give your son, and we will eat him today, and my son, and we will eat him tomorrow.

And we boiled my son and ate him, and I said to her on the second day, Give your son, and let us eat him, and she hid her son

And it happened, when the king of Israel heard the words of the woman, that he tore his garments, and he himself was passing along upon the wall; and the people saw the sackcloth upon his flesh inside

And he said, Thus may God do to me and thus may he add, if the head of Elisha shall stand upon him today.

And Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him, and he sent a man before him, before the messenger came to him; and he himself said to the elders, Do you know that this son of the murderer has sent to take away my head? See, when the messenger comes, shut the door and press him in the door; is not the sound of the feet of his lord behind him?

While he was still speaking with them, behold, a messenger came down to him and said, Behold, this evil is from the Lord; why should I wait for the Lord any longer?
