In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu reigned in Samaria seventeen years.

And he did the evil in the eyes of the Lord, and he walked after the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin; he did not turn away from them.

And the Lord was angered with wrath against Israel, and he gave them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria and into the hand of Ben-hadad son of Hazael all the days.

And Jehoahaz entreated the face of the Lord, and the Lord listened to him, because he saw the affliction of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

And the Lord gave salvation to Israel, and they went out from under the hand of Syria, and the sons of Israel dwelt in their tents as yesterday and the third day.

Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who caused Israel to sin by them; they walked in them, and even the sacred grove remained standing in Samaria.

for there was not left to Jehoahaz people except fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them and had made them like dust for trampling underfoot

And the rest of the words of Joahaz, and all that he did, and his mighty acts, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

And Joachaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in Samaria, and Joash his son reigned in his place.

In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Joash son of Jehoahaz reigned over Israel in Samaria sixteen years.

And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not turn away from any of the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin; in them he walked.

And the rest of the words of Joash and all that he did, and his mights that he did against Amaziah king of Judah, are not these written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

And Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne in Samaria with the sons of Israel.

And Elisha was sick with his sickness by which he died, and Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept over his face and said, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and his horseman.

And Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took toward him bow and arrows.

And he said to the king, Put your hand on the bow. And Joash put his hand on the bow, and Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands.

And he said, Open the window toward the east; and he opened. And he said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, An arrow of salvation to the Lord, and an arrow of salvation against Syria; and you shall strike Syria in Aphek until completion.

And Elisha said to him, Take bows; and he took. And he said to the king of Israel, Strike on the ground; and the king struck three times and stopped.

And the man of God was grieved over him and said, If you had struck five times or six times, then you would have struck Syria until completion; and now you shall strike Syria three times.

And Elisha died, and they buried him, and bands of Moabites came into the land at the coming of the year.

And it happened, while they were burying the man, that behold, they saw the raiding band, and they threw the man into the tomb of Elisha, and he went and touched the bones of Elisha, and he lived and stood up on his feet.

And Hazael oppressed Israel all the days of Joahaz.

And the Lord had mercy on them and took pity on them and looked toward them because of his covenant with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and the Lord was not willing to destroy them, and he did not cast them away from before his face

And Hazael king of Syria died, and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his place.

And Joash son of Jehoahaz turned back and took the cities out of the hand of Ben-hadad son of Hazael, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father in the war. Three times Joash struck him and recovered the cities of Israel.
