And the king sent and gathered to himself all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

And the king went up to the house of the Lord, and every man of Judah and all those dwelling in Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, from small to great, and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the Lord.

And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord to go after the Lord and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his ordinances with all his heart and with all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant, those written on this book; and all the people stood in the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the great priest and the priests of the second rank and those guarding the threshold to bring out from the house of the Lord all the vessels that had been made for Baal and for the sacred grove and for all the host of heaven, and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and he took their ashes to Bethel

And he put down the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had given, and those who burned incense in the high places and in the cities of Judah and those around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal and to the sun and to the moon and to the Mazuroth and to all the host of heaven

And he brought out the grove from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it in the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust, and cast its dust upon the grave of the sons of the people.

And he tore down the house of the sacred prostitutes that were in the house of the Lord, where the women were weaving there hangings for the grove.

And he brought up all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and he defiled the high places where the priests had sacrificed there, from Geba and as far as Beersheba, and he tore down the house of the gates that was by the entrance of the gate of Joshua, the ruler of the city, at the left of a man at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not go up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, because only they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, so that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through to Molech in fire.

And he stopped the horses which the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the Lord, to the treasury of Nathan the king’s eunuch, in Parurim, and the chariot of the sun he burned with fire.

and the altars on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, the king tore down and pulled down from there and cast their dust into the Kidron brook

And the house that was before Jerusalem, on the right of the mount of Mosoa, which Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon, the king defiled.

And he broke the pillars in pieces and destroyed the groves and filled their places with human bones

And also the altar that was in Bethel, the high place that Jeroboam son of Nebat had made, who caused Israel to sin, that altar also and the high place he tore down, and he shattered its stones and ground them to dust and burned the sacred grove.

And Josiah turned aside and saw the tombs that were there in the city, and he sent and took the bones from the tombs and burned them on the altar and defiled it, according to the word of the Lord which the man of God spoke when Jeroboam stood at the feast by the altar. And turning back, he lifted up his eyes to the tomb of the man of God who had spoken these words.

And he said, What is that monument yonder that I see? And I said to him, The man of God is the one who came out from Judah and who called out these words that he called out against the altar of Bethel.

And he said, Leave it; let no man move his bones. And his bones were saved with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.

And also he removed all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord; and Josiah did to them all the deeds that he had done in Bethel.

And he sacrificed all the priests of the high places who were there upon the altars, and he burned the bones of men upon them, and he returned to Jerusalem

And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the Passover to the Lord our God, as it is written in the book of this covenant.

for this Passover had not been done from the days of the judges who judged Israel and all the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah

For in the eighteenth year of King Josiah the Passover to the Lord took place in Jerusalem

And also the mediums and the soothsayers and the teraphim and the idols and all the abominations that had come to be in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem King Josiah removed, in order to establish the words of the law that had been written on the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord

There was not before him a king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, according to all the law of Moses, and after him there did not arise one like him

Nevertheless the Lord did not turn from the fierceness of his great anger, with which his anger was kindled against Judah because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

And the Lord said: I also will remove Judah from before my face, as I removed Israel, and I will cast out this city that I chose, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

And the rest of the words of Josiah and all that he did, are not these written on the scroll of the words of the days for the kings of Judah?

And in his days Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went up against the king of the Assyrians to the river Euphrates, and Josiah went to meet him, and Necho killed him in Megiddo, when he saw him.

And his servants mounted him dead from Megiddo and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb in the city of David. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem, and his mother’s name was Amital the daughter of Jeremiah from Libnah.

And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.

And Pharaoh Neco removed him at Deblatha in the land of Hamath, so as not to reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed a fine on the land: a hundred talents of silver and a hundred talents of gold.

And Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim son of Josiah king of Judah over them in place of Josiah his father, and he changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Jehoahaz he took and brought into Egypt, and he died there.

And the silver and the gold Jehoiakim gave to Pharaoh; nevertheless he taxed the land to give the silver at the mouth of Pharaoh; each man according to his assessment he gave the silver and the gold with the people of the land to give to Pharaoh Neco.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedaph, daughter of Phedeia, from Rouma.

And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.
