The Koine Bible

In the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, a decree was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the vision was true, and the decree, and the great multitude will understand the decree; and I understood it in a vision.

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks.

I did not eat desirable foods, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth; I did not anoint myself with oil until I had completed the three weeks of days.

It came to pass on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, and I was at the bank of the great river, which is the Tigris.

I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, one man clothed in fine linen and girded around the waist with fine linen, and from his midst was light.

His body was like tharsis, and his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his feet were like gleaming bronze, and the sound of his speech was like the sound of a tumult.

I, Daniel, saw this great vision, but the men who were with me did not see this vision; and great fear fell upon them, and they fled in haste.

I was left alone, and I saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me, and behold, a spirit turned upon me for destruction, and I did not prevail.

I did not hear the sound of his speech; I was fallen upon my face upon the ground.

Behold, a hand touched me and raised me upon my knees and upon the soles of my feet.

He said to me, Daniel, you are a pitiable man; understand the commands that I speak to you, and stand in your place, for now I have been sent to you. And while he was speaking this command with me, I stood trembling.

He said to me, Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day on which you set your face to understand and humble yourself before the Lord your God, your word was heard, and I entered because of your word.

The commander of the king of the Persians had stood against me for twenty-one days, and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I left him there with the commander of the king of the Persians.

He said to me, “I have come to show you what will happen to your people at the end of the days, for there is still a vision for days.”

While he was speaking these commands with me, I set my face toward the ground and was silent.

Behold, something like the likeness of a human hand touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and spoke and said to the one standing opposite me, “Lord,” and as if a vision had turned back upon my side toward me, and there was no strength in me.

How will the servant be able to speak with his lord? And I became weak, and there is no strength in me, and no breath was left in me.

And he continued and touched me like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me.

He said to me, “You are a pitiable man; do not fear. Be well, be courageous, and be strong.” And as he spoke with me, I was strengthened, and I said, “Let my lord speak, for he has strengthened me.”

He said to me, “Do you know why I came to you? And now I shall return to fight with the commander of the king of the Persians; and I was going out, and behold, a commander of the Greeks was entering.”

Indeed, I will show you the first things in the record of truth, and there was no one helping me concerning these things except Michael the angel.
