And if you go out to war against your enemies and see horse and rider and a people more numerous than you, you shall not fear from them, because the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
And he shall say to them, Hear, Israel: you are going forward today to battle against your enemies; let your heart not be faint, do not fear, neither be broken, and do not turn aside from before them.
And the scribes shall speak to the people, saying, What man is there who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and turn back to his house, lest he die in the war and another man dedicate it.
And what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not been gladdened by it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war and another man will be gladdened by it.
And what man is there who has engaged a woman and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war and another man take her.
And the scribes shall continue to speak to the people, and they shall say, Who is the man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest he make his brother’s heart faint as his own.
Except the women and the baggage and all the livestock and all that may be in the city, and all the spoil you shall plunder for yourself, and you shall eat all the plunder of your enemies, which the Lord your God gives to you
But behold, from the cities of these nations which the Lord your God is giving you to inherit their land, you shall not save alive from them anything that breathes
but with an accursed thing you shall utterly devote them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite and the Girgashite, as the Lord your God commanded you
But if you besiege around a city for many days to make war against it for its capture, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding iron against them, but you shall eat from it; and you shall not cut it down, for is the tree of the field a man to enter before you into the siege works?
But a tree which you know that it is not for food, you shall destroy and cut down, and you shall build a siegework against the city, which makes war against you, until it is surrendered
