ᾧ δώσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς πλοῦτον καὶ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ δόξαν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὑστερῶν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ πάντων ὧν ἐπιθυμήσει καὶ οὐκ ἐξουσιάσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ φαγεῖν ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀνὴρ ξένος φάγεται αὐτόν τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ ἀρρωστία πονηρά ἐστιν
a man to whom God will give wealth and possessions and glory, and he lacks nothing for his soul from all of which he may desire, and God will not empower him to eat from it, because a strange man will eat it; this is vanity and evil affliction.
γεννήσῃ ἀνὴρ ἑκατὸν καὶ ἔτη πολλὰ ζήσεται καὶ πλῆθος ὅ τι ἔσονται ἡμέραι ἐτῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐμπλησθήσεται ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγαθωσύνης καί γε ταφὴ οὐκ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ εἶπα ἀγαθὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν τὸ ἔκτρωμα
If a man should beget a hundred and live many years, and the days of the years of his life should be many, yet his soul will not be satisfied with good, and indeed he had no burial, I said, a miscarriage is better than he.
For in vanity he came, and in darkness he goes, and in darkness his name will be covered.
and indeed it did not see the sun and it did not know rest; this has more than that one
And if he lived a thousand years and saw not good and goodness, does not everything go to one place?
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul will not be filled.
For what advantage has the wise man over the fool? because the poor man knows how to walk before life.
Better is the sight of the eyes than the going about of the soul; yet indeed this also is vanity and striving after wind
τι ἐγένετο ἤδη κέκληται ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγνώσθη ὅ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος καὶ οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ κριθῆναι μετὰ τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ ὑπὲρ αὐτόν
Whatever has come to be, its name has already been called, and it has been known what man is, and he will not be able to contend in judgment with the stronger than he is.
For there are many words increasing futility; what is abundance for man?
τίς οἶδεν τί ἀγαθὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ἀριθμὸν ἡμερῶν ζωῆς ματαιότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὰς ἐν σκιᾷ ὅτι τίς ἀπαγγελεῖ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τί ἔσται ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον
For who knows what is good for man in the life, the number of the days of the life of his vanity, and he made them in a shadow? For who will declare to man what will be after him under the sun?
